I wish this was a graphic novel version of the book. That is what the cover makes me think. Instead it's a cover change form a book from last year. That cover was reallllllllllly bad. This one I like. Actually makes me want to read it.

SaturnDoo Ohhh darn. I thought it was a GN. I have seen several books lately that have the GN look that aren't. I do like this one. 5y

#BookReport
I completed my goal for the week—The Afterward. I returned both of these books to the library, since they were due. I‘ll put another ILL hold on Anatomy & Physiology.

Mehso-so

If this had been billed as “fantasy f/f romance following a Quest” or even “fantasy f/f romance with student loan debt,” I still would have picked it up and I probably would be giving it a Pick, though it didn‘t 100% satisfy me on the romance front either. I thought this was going to be mostly about the consequences of being famous too young and having to go back to real life, but “real life” mostly seemed to be “debt doesn‘t just go away.”

#BookReport and #WeeklyForecast
I did not complete my Anatomy & Physiology or Happily Ever After goals. I‘m putting them on hold for now. Both of these books are due in a week, and it‘s easier to stop in the middle of a nonfiction book than a novel, so I‘m going to try to read The Afterward this week. If I finish in time, I‘ll read more A&P. If I can‘t finish that, I‘ll put in a fresh ILL hold after I return it.

Light and mostly fluffy and wish fulfillment-y. Though it's called The Afterward, there's a lot of "before" as well. I enjoyed it, but it's a cream puff rather than a meal. #WyrdandWonder

Okay so I do not know how to rate this book lol
I enjoyed it immensely! I know some people just do not jive with Johnston as a writer but that isn't me. There's an absolutely adorable f/f romance. I liked the pacing, the magic, and the questing. I specifically LOVED that knighthood barrier was finances and not sex. My real beef: I think it's wrongly titled. The book focuses very much on the past. Not just the afterward. That just didn't make sense

ravenlee Is this a standalone? 6y

I'm super curious. Pretty purple hue cover. Fantasy standalone. Some f/f romance (I assume).

Won this #ARC copy through #bookishfirst and absolutely loved it!

The Afterward is essentially about what characters do after their epic quest is over. How do they go about everyday life as heroes in the afterward?

It‘s a very character-driven look at two of the main heroes and their relationship. Beautifully diverse and inclusive, and has the sweetest sapphic relationship!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
