I loved this book! One of a set of three, aimed at middle graders. I didn‘t think I‘d like it as it was a mystery/science/adventure but from chapter one I had to find out what happened.
Darkus is a young boy whose father has been kidnapped, we find out that Darkus can communicate with Beetles, but what do beetles have to do with the disappearance of his dad? It was recommended to me by my eldest daughter who now tells me I have to read book two!

I‘m just over half way reading this middle grade book. I can‘t believe I‘m saying this but I‘m loving this storyline and it‘s all about beetles! 🪲
If you‘re looking for a book with suspense, drama, science, family drama then this is the perfect read for middle graders or big kids like me 🤣
There are another two books in the series so I‘ve just reserved those at the library too!

Just finished this with Seth, 9. A good old "whodunnit" but with genetics and entomology along the way. I've got an unexpected respect for beetles now! A fun, quirky read.

Joanne1 I tried this last year looking for some easy reads for my year 8 English students and never finished it. Sounds like I should have stuck with it. 7y

JillR I thought it was good but if pushed I think Seth would say he preferred Frank Cottrell Boyce, and he's also so hooked on Alex Rider is a little difficult to tempt him with anything else! 7y

If you pick up one book this year to read with children - make it this one! The most fantastic adventure story with an unusual but brilliant characters. Can't recommend it enough.
