A brilliant, twisty novel about a missing woman, an unfaithful husband, and the dark secrets that will destroy two perfect families. A scandalous revelation is about to devastate a picturesque town where the houses are immaculate and the neighborhoods are tightly knit. Devoted mother Cora O'Connell has found the journal of her friend Laurel's daughter--a beautiful college student who lives next door--revealing an illicit encounter. Hours later, Laurel makes a shattering discovery of her own: her daughter has vanished without a trace. Over the course of one weekend, the crises of two close families are about to trigger a chain reaction that will expose a far more disturbing web of secrets. Now everything is at stake as they're forced to confront the lies they have told in order to survive.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/4
I had trouble sorting characters at the beginning of the audio book, but once I did it was an entertaining albeit dark and nutty read. I‘m probably cold-hearted because I wasn‘t super satisfied with the ending. Some people didn‘t suffer enough consequences for my tastes.

This. Book. Is. Nuts.

I think I said something a few days ago about not really hooking me. I rescind that statement 😂

#audiobook

Amor4Libros Oooh, I have this somewhere. Must look for it! 7mo
Sace @Amor4Libros I started it on audio and there are a lot of characters to keep up with. Once I had my bearings I was fine, but for me I think it would have been better to read the opening pages then move to the audiobook (I bought it on kindle with audible narration). 7mo
Amor4Libros @Sace I thought I had it, but I don‘t. Maybe I thought about ordering it at some point lol. I‘m adding it to my TBR! 7mo
Sace @Amor4Libros I have the opposite problem. I end up with multiple copies and formats of books because I forget I already have them 🙄 7mo
Amor4Libros @Sace Uff! That has happened to me a couple of times, so now I triple-check before I buy a book 😅 7mo

Started a new #audiobook and working on a sock that I started months ago. So far I‘m not hooked on this book. I hope it gets interesting soon 😂

dabbe Your kitty looks wary of your sock! 😂🐾😂 (edited) 7mo
julesG Looks like you're nearly done with this sock. 😍 7mo
Sace @wanderinglynn thanks. I‘m a sucker for self striping yarn. 7mo
Sace @Texreader thank! 7mo
Sace @dabbe I disturbed her nap 😂 7mo
Sace @julesG Yup. Then I just have to make the mate. 7mo
julesG That's my stumbling point too often. 7mo
rabbitprincess Looooove self-striping yarn! 7mo
tpixie Lovely sock! 🧦 Cute kitty! 🐱 7mo
Sace @julesG second sock syndrome is real! 7mo
Sace @rabbitprincess it‘s the best! I‘m really not good at color combos or joining new colors. I actually enjoy making plain vanilla socks so self striping breaks the monotony. 7mo
dabbe @Sace How dare you Cat-Woman-Person! #saysthecat 😂🐾🤗 7mo
Sace @dabbe 🤣 7mo
julieclair I love audio-crocheting! Someday, I‘d love to learn how to knit as well. 🧶 7mo
Sace @julieclair I do both, but I lean toward simple projects because if it‘s too complicated I can‘t listen to audiobooks 😆 7mo
julieclair LOL... Same here! 7mo

Mehso-so

I gravitated towards the story waiting for it to unfold but as it kept going it fell flat. I was disappointed at the end of the book and continue to feel it was left undone. I still have so many questions unanswered.

The statistics often floated through her mind...:43.9% of women & 23.4% of men who‘d experienced sexual violence...; the 10-14% of women raped during...their marriage; the 14-25% of sexual assaults...; & the one that scared Laurel the most: 18% of women whose children witnessed the sexual assault....the # of Am. women murdered 2001-12 by intimate partners (11,766) was nearly 2x the troops killed in Afghanistan & Iraq... Intimate partner violence.

I absolutely devoured this (once I found the time). It was such a fun read! Secrets and scandals around every corner, along with the reasons as to why. The last sentence of every chapter is another stunner. Great book!! 🍬🍬🍬🍬🍬

An unfaithful man...a missing woman...a weekend of suspense and drama that leaves two families torn apart. There are many characters but it mostly revolves around two neighbors& friends for years. The O'Connells and the Madsens. Cora O'Connell finds a journal written by Laurel Madsens daughter that reveals an illicit encounter with her husband, Sam. Hours later she has disappeared.
Very well crafted entertaining book.

This is definitely not my normal type of read but on occasion I do enjoy a marriage/family type novel. This felt pretty solid, I got a little bored mid way through but the pacing and tension building wasn't too bad and shortly after the action started! #KindleFirstRead
