Still no estimation as too how much coastline was lost to Dorian in the Magdalen Islands, but workers on the ground are saying they have never seen that much damage and loss in one go. The islands' famous bike path is gone in places and marshes are saturated and filled with crap (shown). Winter storm season starts in three weeks.

JacqMac It was a bad one. So sad. 5y

tournevis @Come-read-with-me @JacqMac @CarolynM @Leftcoastzen @batsy @laurenslibrary The Islands will rebuild. That's what they do. Some of how ancestors were deported three times before settling there. Re-building is what Madelinots do best. 5y

Even though Dorian hit the Islands last night, they're maintaining alert conditions for of hurricane wind speeds. Dorian has been downgraded to a tropical storm on its way to Newfoundland. It'll hit there very soon. The undersea communication cable is still there, thankfully, but power is generally down Fishing boats and marinas were most hit, with direct economic effect next Spring. NS, overall, was hit much harder, especially around Halifax.

Avanders 🙏🏽🙏🏽 such a scary storm.. 5y
tournevis @Avanders Absolutely. 5y

tournevis @PurpleyPumpkin I'm fine 2000km away. My family there don't have power, but also no flooding. The old school's roof is nowhere to be found. 5y
Gissy I hope everything goes well! Take care and be safe! Lives are more important than anything!❤️❤️❤️❤️ 5y
tournevis @Gissy I'm fine 2000km away. My family is fine. No flooding and minor damage. The sea cable survived and electricity should come back soon. 5y
Gissy @tournevis I'm glad everything is and that you and your family are ok. That Dorian was so unique, strange in his routes, dangerous, terrible! 5y
tournevis @Gissy As the first to hit the Magdalen Islands in 400 years, it certainly was unique. I've still to hear how much coastal land was lost this time. Last winter storm this year averaged at one foot, meaning some places lost a little bit and others lost large swaths. 5y

Ok, this is really worrying. Dorian, the hurricane that's been terrorizing the US East coast since yesterday is moving upwards to hit Nova Scotia at Halifax on Sunday am. This is unusual enough, but not unheard of. What is unheard of is that it'll go through NS, then PEI, to hit the Magdalen Islands Sunday pm. It's the first hurricane to do so in *recorded* history. 400y. Sea storms? Yearly. Tropical storms? Yep. Hurricane? NEVER. That's my home.

IamIamIam We just had a lot of rain, not even a lot of wind, on Long Island. Hopefully it blows itself out quickly! 5y
FantasyChick We are only in the beginning stages and there are quite a few without power. Fingers crossed, mine holds. The wind is picking up here now but not nearly as bad as expected yet. Tons of rain. Hopefully it tapers off before heading to the Islands 🤞 5y
larah17 That's very scary. I hope you are alright - take care of yourselves over there!! 5y

Avanders Oh no 🤭 Like said above 👆🏽, I hope it blows itself out quickly!! 5y
JacqMac My whole family is in NS. I have my fingers crossed. And my toes. 🤞 5y
GrilledCheeseSamurai I have a friend in Nova Scotia and he's hunkering down and tightening everything up. Stay safe. 5y
tournevis @FantasyChick Yeah, it should plow right over Chignecto. That's pretty much where you are, no? Sending good thoughts. 5y
tournevis @larah17 I'll call my mother later to get a report of the half of the gang currently on the islands. 5y
tournevis @IamIamIam Glad it was ok for you guys! 5y
tournevis @Avanders 😘😘😘 5y
tournevis @FantasyChick I just can't shake the image of meters of land getting erroded. It's bad enough with winter sea storms, but a hurricane? You saw what happened to Grand Bahamas. Andnthat a rocky island. Red gypsum is brittle! There's not that much land in the first place. La Pointe au loups gets flooded on a good day! 5y
IamIamIam So... it appears that it hasn't even come up the coast to us yet... 😂😂😂 I read books, I don't predict the weather!! 5y
tournevis @IamIamIam Ok then, hunker down and mind official announcements! 😘 5y
IamIamIam @tournevis Same to you guys!! We rocked Sandy, we'll show Dorian what we're made of!!! 🤗😘 5y
tournevis @IamIamIam I'm 2000 km away personally, but they are hunckering down. Though, apparently, it really did go past you, because it hit the southern tip of NS at 3pm, bounced back into the Atlantic, is gaining strength and should hit Halifax, NS, around 9pm. 5y
Gissy Be safe! I know who difficult it is to wait and see what is going to happen! I know!❤️❤️❤️❤️ 5y
tournevis @Gissy 😘😘😘 5y

An update for my friends that I only talk to here --

It stopped raining.
My boss let me charge electronics at work.
The flooding is slowly going down.
The tree is still on the truck.
The truck is crushed in the tailgate, cab might be okay.
Power is restored to part of the county
