Really enjoyed this audiobook. It‘s about love and friendship during WWII set in one the few traveling circus‘s still allowed to perform. I found the way the book was wrapped up at the end to be especially touching. It did slog a bit in the middle but overall, I really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this book. I‘ve never seen Chicago so I didn‘t have a comparison but I found the story fascinating. Throw in some female reporters along with female murderers and that makes for an interesting read in my opinion.

Couldn‘t pass this up while in Fargo-Moorhead. The way the race organizers treated her after her death broke my heart. When I found out she was from this area, I decided to pay my respects while visiting my family. She‘s buried about 15-20 minutes from this mural.

suvata Awww. That is so cool. I‘m really glad you got a chance to see it. 2y
Kaila-ann @suvata thanks! I thought she was fascinating after reading the book and I couldn‘t resist. 2y
bibliobard Very cool! I am finishing up Murder City and it makes me want to watch the film Chicago...not quite the same thing, but it‘s funny how our books inspire decisions like this. 2y
Kaila-ann @Shakespearience I still want to watch Chicago since I‘ve never seen it. Yes, it kind of tells me it‘s a good book of it makes you want to go out and explore the world a little bit or expand your horizons 😉. 2y

An interesting read about a part of history that doesn‘t really get talked about much. Shortly after gaining our independence, the new US government was being tested by the pirates from the Barbary coast. The book explores the reaction to these attacks, the founding of the US Navy and part of the Marine Corp Hymn.

To the shores of Tripoli.

Not my favorite in the series but overall, not the worst ending. It is post apocalyptical, there was always a good chance that it wasn‘t going to come out roses. I‘m glad I listened to it on audio though, switching back and forth between Tris and Tobias would have been a lot more confusing/harder to keep track of in print.

Definitely YA again and not as good as the first one in my opinion. A little slower pace and if we‘re being honest, Tris was kind of annoying in this one. She had a bad habit of acting like she was the only one in pain and that irked me. I didn‘t dislike the book but I definitely didn‘t love it either.

Not a huge fan of YA fiction but I did enjoy this book and the series overall. I listened to it on audio and that may have helped. A post apocalyptic society that has divided into 5 factions, each with it own strengths and what it gives to the community but as usual, nothing is as it appears. Tris decides to leave her faction and eventually things in the entire community begin to unravel.

Definitely a case of the right book at the wrong time. Worth work, family and the world in its current state, this book was just way too intense and in-depth. I‘ve promised it to someone else along with a couple of other reading obligations that I am behind on. This isn‘t a never, just a not right now.

This was between a pick and so-so for me. I think there are (or at least sound like) there are some good lessons to be taken away from the way Starbucks operates as a company. My issue with the book itself, it was almost all positive on the company to the point where even when the company did wrong, they could do no wrong. Not terrible really just a little on the unrealistic side in my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Picture for attention (a picture I took, btw 😉)

Work is bananas right now. I am non-clinical but I work in an internal medicine office in the biggest hospital in our county. My coworker/partner in crime is on the tail end of her maternity leave and while I‘ve had some very awesome ladies from our team helping out, it‘s a lot. All of that to say, that I am a little behind in reading, reviewing and writing letters. More in comments 👇🏻👇🏻.

Kaila-ann I‘ll be posting some catch up posts and I hope to get all of my letters (#litsylove) caught up just as soon as my coworker is back. For now tho photography has become my happy place. #unpopularopinion but I didn‘t love this book. Honestly, I‘m not even sure if I enjoyed it. Maybe the classics just aren‘t my thing. There just didn‘t seem like there a point to the entire story and yet I wanted to know how the ladies ended up settled. A fast and easy read although definitely sad. I realized I had all three of the books so why not read them. The love between Lou and Will is beautiful and tragic. The choice Will ultimately makes is one most people hope not to have to come to grips with. All in all, a good read.

Took me a little while to really get into this one. All the tech in the first part of the book felt a little off-putting for a book about a bookstore but once the secret society came into play, it got better. The character development wasn‘t off the charts but for the most part I thought they were cute and worked well together. I give this one a pick but it wasn‘t always a sure bet.

Finally got around to this one & wow! I haven‘t read Lord of the Flies (I know 😳) but I understand the concept and the two books probably are along the same lines as far as subject matter. FantasticLand is an amusement park that gets hit by a hurricane and cut off from society. Told in interviews, stories and perspectives come out about the awful tragedy. I would definitely recommend it. Thanks for sending it to me @Mynameisacolour

HeathHof Awesome! I'm glad that you liked it! We read this for #lmpbc round 7. I liked the interview with the guy who hid out in the hotel. He seemed like one of the more logical people and his situation was totally creepy at the same time 😱 2y
Kaila-ann @Mynameisacolour I totally agree and feel like that‘s a route I would have taken as well. Overall I enjoyed this book. There was a lot of information but Sam Kean has a way of breaking it down and making it entertaining. I will say that this one wasn‘t quite as approachable as The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeon- I‘m not sure if it was the subject matter or the deliverance of the material. Still an enjoyable read and I have sent it off to a fellow litten to enjoy.

It was probably more me than the book but I gave up after the introduction. The author‘s tone just suggested that he was not really a big fan of the people he was going to be discussing and I decided this wasn‘t the book for me. It takes place in the future where corporations (openly) run everything and you actually take on the name of the company you work for (John Nike for example). Definitely a weird story.
