THE CULT CLASSIC RETURNS!!! One day, it starts raining-and never stops. Global super-storms decimate the planet, eradicating most of mankind. Pockets of survivors gather on mountaintops, watching as the waters climb higher and higher. But as the tides rise, something else is rising, too. Now, in the midst of an ecological nightmare, the remnants of humanity face a new menace, in a battle that stretches from the rooftops of submerged cities to the mountaintop islands jutting from the sea. What hope does an already-devastated mankind have against this new supernatural adversary. The old gods are dead. Now is the time of the Earthworm Gods... Deadite Press is proud to present this Author's Preferred Edition of Earthworm Gods, including an all-new, lengthy afterword by the author recounting the novel's inspiration, creation, and history.

I loved this one. Just a great apocalyptic tale with characters you are sad to see go and earthworms the size of freaking suburbans. Oh, and mermaids!

Andrew65 Giant Earthworms and mermaids, what more could you want. 1y
Reggie Lolol totally bonkers that whole in the middle of Grumpy Old Men at the end of the world , Keene shifts gears and tells you about the Satanists in that one building. Crazy. Love this book so much. 1y
Bookzombie @Reggie Me too! Also, I would watch Grumpy Old Men At the End of World if they made that movie. 1y

I love this! I started this in September, but with the move didn‘t get to spend much time with it. Once I picked it up again this week, I devoured it. (Ha!) It‘s a great mash-up of what I love: scary creatures, random survivors thrown together, grumpy old men, and an apocalypse.

Thanks @Reggie for sending this one to me! You are awesome! 🐛🧜‍♀️🦑

Reggie Lol,yayyy I‘m so glad you liked it. Brian Keene says he based it off his grandfather who actually was in WW2. I loved Teddy and his friend who was sometimes a few sandwiches short of picnic sometimes. I forget his name. And then the crazy guy. When he shoots down that chopper. Oh em gee! Lol I hope Indiana is the best for you, Margie. 2y
Bookzombie @Reggie I loved Teddy and Carl! Earl was the crazy guy. The chopper was crazy and when he comes back on the carport! I really enjoyed Keene‘s afterword about the book and his grandfather. You are so sweet. Thanks so much for the good wishes, Reggie. 😊 2y
Bookzombie @TheAromaofBooks This was my #Bookspin for September. 🙂 2y

Bookzombie @myellenbee Thanks!😊 2y
Reggie Hey, Margie. I was just wondering if you‘re not too busy with the move or with life you might want to join the LItsy postal markup club. I‘m in groups L and R if you wanna join one. 4 of us we each pick a book, read it, mark it up and pass it on till the 4 months is up. I‘ve always wanted to read a book with you and this is also a way I can get your new address. Lol, if you want. Signups are on Suvata‘s page. (edited) 2y
Bookzombie @Reggie Hi, Reggie! This will sound silly but I have never joined one before because I don‘t know if I would be any good at it. I don‘t know if I think critically enough when I read, but I can try. Do you have a preference on which group I join? 😀 I would give you my address anyway, lol. 2y
Reggie @Bookzombie oh please a lot of my comments go like this- lol, oh wow, Jesus!- I‘m crying right now. Lol you would be great. Whichever one you want, Margie. 2y
Bookzombie @Reggie Lol, that‘s good to know. Is the romance one full? It looks like there are three on the site but four in your post. Maybe I misread. 2y
Reggie No it‘s not. A girl backed out. So there‘s only 3 now. 2y

This is a book that looks good but actually isn't.

Okay, it started off pretty good but like 50 pages in--it just veered off and went downhill.

I expected to be reading a creature feature with worms, but is there even huge worms in this? Did I miss it?

The writing is poor in some places, there's page after page of rambling dialogue and i was bored out of my mind but i finished it because I hate to DNF.

SW-T Ouch. Sounds very disappointing. Hope your next read is better! 2y

Meet Teddy, a thoughtful octogenarian who happens to be from the Greatest Generation. Teddy and a couple of friends is all that‘s left of their mountain because the rains haven‘t stopped and the water keeps rising. There‘s also satanists, sea monsters, conspiracy theorists, and of course lots of worms. Favorite line: That was the morning the early worm ate the bird. Keene is so good and he wrote the hell out of this book. #21daysofhorror. Day 3.

BiblioLitten The cover reminded me of 3y
vivastory Yes! Such an original book! I remember reading this early on in the pandemic & it was such a great escape. I really do need to read the sequel as well as more of Keene's work 3y
Crazeedi The early worm ate the bird!!! Hehehehe!!😁 3y

Reggie @BiblioLitten did you like that book? 3y
Reggie @vivastory I like the third where people paid to be in different scenes of the apocalypse. Keene actually got on the phone with all of them and found out who they were so he could write them. There‘s some scenes I still think about. 3y
Reggie @Crazeedi Teddy keeps track of this bird outside his window because there‘s less and less wildlife and one morning he checks outside for it. That‘s when he sees this worm jump up from the ground and swallow it whole as it was coming down from the tree. At first he tells himself he must be seeing things. But yeah, that line is how the chapter starts and it sticks with you. Lol 3y
BiblioLitten @Reggie It was in 2020 and it was too much for me. I bailed after about 60% 🙃 3y
Reggie @BiblioLitten somethings definitely hit different during different times. I put on the Keanu version of The Day the Earth Stood Still and even though it‘s 13 years old some of the stuff in there feels very much scary now that I almost turned it off. 3y
BiblioLitten @Reggie True. I had marked The Plague and Devolution as my top TBR but I never got to it. I just couldn‘t! 3y

This book reads so well. Mermaids? Huge worms? Satanists? Other weird stuff? It's all there! It was my first Keene's book and I am sure I will reach for more.

vivastory I“m glad you liked it! This was my first Keene & I also will def be reading more. There's a follow-up to this one that I'll probably check out soon. 4y
Maxikot @vivastory Oh is there? Awesome! I need to look it up then, thanks again! 4y

Brian Keene's “The Conqueror Worms“ was published 25 years too late to be included in Hendrix's survey of 70s & 80s pulp horror, but it's very much in the spirit of Paperbacks from Hell. First published as Earthworm Gods, republished under the title of one of EA Poe's greatest poems the following year & now available as simply Earthworms. I immediately purchased this following @Reggie enthusiastic review & it didn't disappoint! A rain-soaked pick!

Reggie Yayyy!!! There was just so much to like in here. Glad you saw it too. 4y

vivastory @Reggie Loved it! 4y
Maxikot Your post made me read the book and I had a great time ^^ Thanks! 4y
Reggie @Maxikot I'm sorry, I didn't even see this comment until right now because I'm trying to figure out to add the book for the third in this series which is Earthworm Gods: Selected Scenes from the End of the World. lol I'm so glad you had a good time with it!!! 4y
vivastory @Reggie All of the title changes have been strange... I wonder if Keene stopped using Conqueror Worms because of Poe's estate 4y
Reggie @vivastory omg Scott I‘m crazy. I‘m trying to figure out how to enter a book into Litsy cause the third title in this series isn‘t on here and was rereading posts and thought this was mine when I saw that comment. Lolol my apologies @Maxikot 4y
Reggie @vivastory perhaps? 4y
vivastory @Reggie The credit is definitely due to you, friend! I wouldn't have read it had it not been for your wonderful review. 4y
Reggie I still feel like a pretentious douche bag but thank you. I was wondering why I hadn‘t got the comment notification. Went to go check my settings. Anyways, I‘m excited another person read this! 4y
Maxikot @Reggie I've already picked up the continuation and I'm having the same blast 🐛 so there's also a third book? My life feels bugged now lol 4y

This book is the best book I‘ve read this year. I‘m not looking for deep, just for distraction and this has it ALL. 80 yo, Teddy is telling us about how it hasn‘t stopped raining for 40 days. And what starts out as a melancholic Grumpy Old Men story morphs into the best possible John Carpenter B movie complete with a mermaid, some satanists, and huge earthworms. You wouldn‘t believe it if I told you so just read it. Lol, a huge pick!!!

madams421 YESYESYES. I live for B movies so def checking this one out 4y
Cathythoughts Oh nooo 🙈😂 4y
Reggie @Cathythoughts it‘s crazy. Lol 4y

Reggie @madams421 when I started it I really thought it was gonna be a melancholic retelling of a quiet life and then it goes high octane and doesn‘t stop. Hope you like it! 4y
Twainy Love Brian Keene 😁 4y
Reggie @Twainy this is my 3rd by him and I really should read him more. He has tons of books and funny enough this book actually has a sequel and I ordered it right after I finished this one. (edited) 4y
kspenmoll So happy you found a book to enjoy!!!! 4y
Reggie @kspenmoll Thanks! It has me revved up. 4y
Billypar Very nice...I think this was referenced in the Grady Hendrix book - there was definitely a giant worm section. 4y
Rissreads Another corker!!!! 🤣 4y
vivastory You had me at Carpenter B movie with mermaids. I would stack this several times if Litsy let me 😂 4y
Reggie @Billypar I haven‘t read Paperbacks from Hell but this book definitely makes me want to search out other giant worm books. Keene can write a good character and throw a lot of action and macabre at them. It‘s entertaining to say the least. 4y
Reggie @Vivastory I definitely had some Big Trouble in Little China and Prince of Darkness flashbacks where I thought what the hell is going on and round creatures with nothing but eyes on it showed up after they lost the guy to the monster ate that one guy in the underground tunnel after the three storms kidnapped Mao Yin. That kinda craziness. Lol, You‘ll like it, Scott. 4y
