Narconomics: How To Run a Drug Cartel | Tom Wainwright
Everything drug cartels do to survive and prosper theyve learnt from big business brand value and franchising from McDonalds, supply chain management from Walmart, diversification from Coca-Cola. Whether its human resourcing, R&D, corporate social responsibility, off-shoring, problems with e-commerce or troublesome changes in legislation, the drug lords face the same strategic concerns companies like Ryanair or Apple. So when the drug cartels start to think like big business, the only way to understand them is using economics. In Narconomics, Tom Wainwright meets everyone from coca farmers in secret Andean locations, deluded heads of state in presidential palaces, journalists with a price on their head, gang leaders who run their empires from dangerous prisons and teenage hitmen on city streets - all in search of the economic truth.

Clark and I just finished this book about the economics of the global drug trade and how to run a cartel. I was riveted and rated it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Clark found it... a snooze 😴😂

Copwithabook Oooo sounds super interesting 4y

Not so much how to run a cartel but more like how cartels are run and what governments should do to curb their “business”. An interesting read :)

A book which seeks to analyse the drug industry on an economic basis, with cartels being multinationals exploiting government weaknesses and fleeing to the neighboring country when circumstances become unfavorable down to the foot soldiers who are the equivalent of servers at fast franchises. I found his arguments that the solution to this problem should be addressed on this basis with rehabilitation providing a cheaper alternative to enforcement.

MrBook Nice review!!! 8y

Vegas is happening! I'm going to drag myself there if I have to! I've scheduled a pedicure on my one afternoon off. So excited!!!! 💅🏻💅🏻💃🏻💃🏻 Also excited to chill in my room after a day of schmoozing. (It's a work trip.)

Packing while listening to this book. It's just what I need right now after the trauma of The Animators. I posted a TW in a spoiler tag this morning. It had me REALLY upset at work.

This book really puts the crime and violence in the drug world in a whole new light and forced me as a reader to look that the facts of the cartels. The correlation between business and cartel is very creepily similar. Because of this we need to explore new options when it comes to forcing the violent and horrible drug lords out of business. That means making economists police officers. Great read and one that I highly recommend!!

I picked up these three as ebooks/audiobooks at today's Amazon sale! I've read most of the books on sale, but somehow these three escaped me. For some books, adding narration is discounted 👍🏻, but others it's still up at $12.99 😳! Two are for #NonfictionChallenge17

HardcoverHearts I just saw that sale and I'm going in deep for it! There are some on there that I have on wait list at the library so I am happy to pay 1.99 to jump ahead of the line and have my own copy! 8y
Megabooks @HardcoverHearts I always do that too! 8y

...a kilogram of...cocaine...needs...350 kilograms of dried coca leaves...that would cost about $385. Once this is converted into a kilo, it can sell in Colombia for $800...that same kilo is worth $2,200 by the time it is exported from Colombia, and it has climbed to $14,500 by the time it is imported to the U.S. After being transferred to a midlevel dealer, its price climbs to $19,500. Finally, it is sold by street-level dealers for $78,000

Tldeandrea This one is on my list. Did you enjoy it? 8y
