Julia Winward has been missing for nearly a year. When her mutilated body is discovered in the Thames, her brother Josh travels to London from America, determined to find out what happened to her during that lost time. But nothing Josh discovers makes any sense and he soon unearths a terrible secret. Julia had been working for a company that shut down sixty years ago, and living at an address that hadn't existed since World War II. His investigation leads him to Ella, an eccentric young woman whose psychic abilities plunge them into a nightmarish alternate reality filled with unspeakable horror. First published in 2001, The Doorkeepers is a thriller of horrifying dimensions that will keep you gripped until the last page.

Bailedbailed

Well, this was the shortest read of the year 😂.

This had such promise! Alternative Realities, a strange mystery, a strange young woman with interesting abilities...

The book even begins with a sneak peek scene of a seance!

Then the first two chapters begin with the “details“ of how the main character's sister is tricked into being kidnapped and gruesomely tortured to death.

👇

AnnCrystal I often skip over scenes, yet I'm usually invested with a story and characters before I have to...

I just can't!

This one will be promptly donated.

The good thing, there's now a space for a new book 😉.

BookmarkTavern Silver lining! Also, I would have bailed on that too. 2mo
AnnCrystal 💕📚☺️💝 @BookmarkTavern .

Right! It seemed too good a story...the disappointment when a book isn't what it seems 😳🥺😒...

Thank you @debinhawaii for creating this fun play-card and for tagging me 😎👍💝.

1- Aside from a few exceptions, the last few times out and about were nice. I mean the people were nice again. Like my neighborhood's mood has been uplifted...like people are less stressed and more hopeful 💫.

2- It's Friday the Thirteenth! Always a fun day 👻🥳!

3- Scary movie night, it's a tradition for Friday the 13th. Not sure what we're watching yet 🎬🤔. 👇

AnnCrystal 4- Yesterday, ran across the tagged book (one of many that has been waiting for me on my bookshelf). Wasn't planning on beginning a new read just yet...then again, this creepy, scary book caught my interest the day before Friday the 13th 📚😳!

5- Made pretzels 🥨, and more blueberry cookies 🫐🍪😋.

Mehso-so

Great concept but a little too much London slang for me and some scenes were a bit too long winded. I feel like it could have had fewer tangents and had the story move along a little better. Josh's sister's body was found 10 months after she went missing and it turns out she was living in an alternate reality London? Josh and his girlfriend have an adventure traveling through various Londons for information.

I am dangerously close to the end of this book with not nearly enough resolution to any of the strange situations going on.... 🤔

Apparently there are no other posts about this weird little book! Spending my day with the occult rather than cleaning up after having my 3 teenage nephews all weekend! I just need a recharge and I think a seance is the way to go. 🤣
