You've Been Volunteered
You've Been Volunteered: A Class Mom Novel | Laurie Gelman
In the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Laurie Gelmans "irreverent and hilarious" (The New York Post) hit Class Mom, brash, lovable Jen Dixon is back with a new class and her work cut out for her If youve ever been a room parent or school volunteer, Jen Dixon is your hero. She says what every class mom is really thinking, whether in her notoriously frank emails or standup-worthy interactions with the micromanaging PTA President and the gamut of difficult parents. Luckily, she has the charm and wit to get away with itmost of the time. Jen is sassier than ever but dealing with a whole new set of challenges, in the world of parental politics and at home. Shes been roped into room-parenting yet again, for her son Maxs third grade class, but as her husband buries himself in work, her older daughters navigate adulthood, and Jens own aging parents start to need some parenting themselves, Jen gets pulled in more directions than any one mom, or superhero, can handle. Refreshingly down-to-earth and brimming with warmth, Dixons next chapter will keep you turning the pages to find out whats really going on under the veneer of polite parent interactions, and have you laughing along with her the whole way.

It think every parent wants to be more involved with their kids and school but when they need help we all seem to have something else to do. The wit that Jen Dixon has in this story is hilarious. She is what we all aspire to be and say.

Really fun and easy to read. A nice break after reading She Said, which is important but HEAVY. I could read a dozen of these. Can't wait until the next one is published.

Eggs As an employee, I am often “volunTOLD” 😂😂😂 4y
AutumnRLS Lol. I was volunTOLD I was going to be PTA VP next year. Lol. I guess that's what I get for running the scholastic book fairs so well. 😂 4y

I really enjoyed this book. It was a light and funny fast read. This is the second book in the Class Mom series and I liked it just as much as the first. Although it does make me nervous about my own kids entering elementary school. Is the PTA really this scary???

TEArificbooks I haven‘t read the books but I am on the PTA board and let me tell you it can get bad. It really depends on the women you work with just like at the office. There is almost always one mom every one hates usually the president cause they go on a power trip. The mommy wars seen in Big Little Lies are a real thing - like scheduling a counter party to mess with a little girls birthday just to piss off the mom. 4y
Nevertoobusyforbooks @mdm139 Ugh that‘s what I was afraid of. I have 3 years until my oldest starts kindergarten so I have some time to mentally prepare myself 😬 4y

Follow-up book to Class Mom about midwestern stay at home mom who leads the crossing guard volunteers and writes humorous emails to the other parents. I enjoyed the book for the most part, although I find the main character very shallow and self-absorbed.I found myself rolling my eyes a lot at some of her behaviors. One of my favorite parts is the book takes place in Kansas City, where I live, so the restaurants mentioned are all familiar.

This is the second in the Class Mom series and I quite enjoy the witty and funny dialogue. I‘m probably ready to read something heavier now

Onto my next light read of the weekend. The main character is reminding me a bit of Madeleine in Big Little Lies but without the murder and complex story line 🤣

tapgurl Made me laugh- loved it! 5y
mcctrish @tapgurl the dialogue ( and emails) was well done 👍🏻 I was laughing a lot too 5y

This is the second book in what I suppose you could now call the “Class Mom” series. Now I hope there‘s a third because I really enjoy Gelman‘s writing style and can relate to her sense of humor. With a somewhat self explanatory premise, this is a nice, light read-perfect to offset so many heavier reads out there. In fact, with such a relatable premise, I‘m surprised it hasn‘t been explored more often.

I enjoyed Gelman‘s first novel, Class Mom, so this is up next. It‘s also the perfect time of year to read it with Back to School rapidly approaching...not that I want to think about it. 😔 #litsyatoz #lettery

Since I listened to the first Class Mom novel, I have become one (PVC: Parent Volunteer Coordinator at our school), so I expect to laugh even more with this one.

Megabooks I loved the first one! This is definitely going on my TBR! 5y
