The new popsocket for my phone arrived!

The end of October reading. Stella Fortuna and Evelyn Hardcastle were really dark. Both of the Sloan novels were whimsical and really great. I'm bummed that I've got a 10 week wait on the second V E Schwab or I'd have already read the whole series by now. So good!

The Ex Hex: A Novel | Erin Sterling
post image

Currently reading The Ex Hex. The Night Circus and The Girls I've Been were solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s and I don't usually rate books at 5 stars (maybe a handful a year). All the trigger warnings for The Girls I've Been, but what a page turner! Also, Louise Penny continues to work her magic with the most recent installment to Inspector Gamache.

More September reading!

The Love Hypothesis might be a contender for most enjoyable book of the year. Smart, funny, and sexy.

Today's mail. Still can't believe he's gone. 💔

Kimberlone Watched the documentary a few weeks ago, I was surprised that I didn‘t cry as much as I thought I would. Definitely want to read this. Have been a fan of his shows for years and read Kitchen Confidential and Medium Raw. 2mo
AutumnRLS I struggled at the end of the documentary. I hate crying in public. I thought it was beautifully put together. I'm looking forward to hearing from more voices regarding his life. 2mo

I do not like prequels, but I am a completionist and I hate reading books out of order. (You can only imagine how annoyed I felt when I realized I should have read Reid's cozy mystery featuring Cletus Winston BEFORE I read Roscoe's book). With all that being said, it is a testament to the writing and my love for these characters that propelled me through this one and directly on to the next. I'm ready for Billy to get his happily ever after.

Today's, and really every day's, reading companion.

BookNAround Schnauzers are the best! 2mo
AutumnRLS @BookNAround I agree! Although I think she's probably as bad as your cat some days. She'll paw at my hand to try to make me pet her, lick in my ear if I tell her no, and then finally - sit in-between me and the book, put both her paws on my shoulder, and stare me in the face. 🤣 2mo
BookNAround My schnauzer Gatsby can be rotten when I‘m trying to read too but mostly she‘s content to curl up on my lap and keep me company rather than making it hard to read. 2mo

The Sentence Is Death | Anthony Horowitz

I almost quit this several times. The book itself was great, but the voice the narrator chose to give the adversarial police detective was so grating that I could hardly bear it. The character was awful and had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. That combo is lethal (pun intended). I definitely had the urge to throw my phone across the room several times while listening. I recommend you skip the audiobook on this one, and read it on the page.

I know I'm late to the news, but man am I sad about the death of the original narrator. The new one is good, but it took me almost four hours of listening to settle in. Great book, but a little spooked about the John Flemming character.

Hello friends! It has been awhile. I've been slowly picking up the pieces of myself that got discarded during shut down when I became the defecto full-time educator of my 7 year old. He's back to school for now and I'm trying to get as many projects completed while I can. I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks as a result. I adore the narration for the above books, especially for the Louise Penny!

Currently listening to Bury Your Dead.

I loved A Study in Scarlet Women and was delighted to find there are 5 more!

2 a.m. at the Cat's Pajamas was a so-so for me. I didn't like any of the characters.

Normal People was interesting and rang true. I lived in Dublin and went to Trinity.

I was impressed that Moonflower pulled off the same trick as Magpie without being repetitive.

Rachel Bloom's reading of her memoir was wonderful.

Haven't been posting a lot, as my life suddenly got very busy again after I received the covid vaccination. Here are the books I've finished over the last couple months. Definitely still struggling to read physical books, but until I can - I've been enjoying podcasts and audiobooks while I craft or play Minecraft with my son. Have any of you read these? What did you think?

Finally (!) finished The Good House. I struggled with that one all the way through. When the plot was moving, it was too scary. When it wasn't, the pacing was difficult. But honestly, I think I was the one with the issue this time, not the book. Looking forward to listening to Veronica Mars in time for my podcast to cover the books. I loved the show. So here goes... maybe this will help the reading slump I've fallen into.
