Finally found a moment to post my March roundup.

Still enjoying old Harlan Coben books.
Adam Grant was interesting & a nice change of pace.

I loved The Final Girl Support Group, but didn't like the narrator.

Absolutely loved A Beginning at the End though the subject was emotional after the last two years.

And the Witcher... I've become completely obsessed - show, games, and books. Can't wait to binge the rest.

Incredible world building. Complicated characters that you can't help but to grow attached. I may have ugly cried on several occasions. Five stars for each book on it's own. Together as a trilogy: *chef's kiss*

The rest of my February round up!

Jade War 5⭐️'s
Book 2 Green Bone Saga. So good!

Circe 4⭐️'s
I wish the plot were a little tighter, but overall a fantastic read.

To Be Taught if Fortunate 3⭐️'s
Chambers' writing is so character driven, that it needs more time to breath so that the reader can form an attachment. It was good, but if it were more fleshed-out (like her novels) it could have been great.

February round up!
Where'd You Go, Bernadette 5 ⭐️'s
Couldn't put it down. Started at 7pm finished @ 5am. Next day was rough, but worth it.

Deal Breaker 3 ⭐️'s
Classic noir. Language surrounding sex work doesn't age well.

The Ninties 4 ⭐️'s
Fun book. But having lived through it, there wasn't much in here that I didn't already know.

The Anthropocene Reviewed 5⭐️'s
Essays both broad and specific with a mix of memoir and interesting facts.

I've been reading a lot of fantasy lately, which is nice. I used to read scifi/fantasy exclusively, but since I've expanded my reading, I find myself reading less and less of it. This year I decided to fix that. Every time I read one, I'm reminded why this is my favorite genre. See below for my ratings and very brief thoughts on each title 👇

AutumnRLS Jade City: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Brilliant writing with unexpected twits and turns. Can't wait to read the rest of this trilogy! 2y
AutumnRLS The Traitor Baru Cormorant: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This one suffered due to poor narration. This book deserved better I think. I almost want to reread this in trade paperback format to see if there's a big difference in my level of enjoyment. 2y
AutumnRLS A Conjuring of Light ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A solid conclusion to the trilogy with room to continue later with these characters or others within this world. 2y
AutumnRLS The Bear and the Nightingale: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautifully written and I had no idea where this was going to land by the end. Can be read as a stand-alone, but I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next two! 2y
AutumnRLS Record of a Spaceborn Few: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: There is just something magical about Becky Chambers. She always manages to perfectly hit upon what it means to be human; with all its faults, eccentricities, and love. This book was no exception. I continued to think about it long after it was done and placed back on my shelf. 2y

#litsycrafters Check in! Just taught myself how to crochet granny squares last night while listening to Stanley Tucci's book, Taste.

Chrissyreadit That looks great! 2y
Kenyazero That's super fun! 2y
AutumnRLS @Kenyazero & @ Chrissyreadit Thanks! I'm really enjoying it. Tonight I'm going to teach myself a variation of the traditional granny square! Thinking about making a sampler blanket. 2y
AutumnRLS @Chrissyreadit ☝accidentally spaced between @ and your name 🤪 2y
Chrissyreadit 😄 I want to learn how to make them one day. I bought a book to try and figure it out. It‘s sounds like it will be fun 2y

We Ride On Sticks was delightful and had me laughing out loud - 4⭐
All the Birds in the Sky - Had me hooked by page 2 and couldn't put out down. 5⭐
Reaper at the Gates - I really need something good to happen to these characters in the next book or I'm going to hurl it at the wall. 3⭐
Addie LaRue- I don't even know where to start. Absolutely brilliant 5 ⭐
👇

AutumnRLS The Other Einstein - Are all of Marie Benedict books this depressing and anger inducing? If so, count me out. 👎
A Gathering of Shadows - Definitely suffered from being the middle book in a trilogy, but it's a nice setup for book three. Magical Pirates are definitely in my wheelhouse. 4 ⭐

Currently reading Ready Player Two. A Gentleman in Moscow took me a long time to get through, but I'm really glad I read it. A Walk in the Woods was good, but suffered from having been written 25 years ago. If you can get past the misogyny and fat shaming, the rest is interesting.

mcctrish I felt the same way about A gentleman in Moscow. It begs not to be rushed and I struggled with that at times, but it was a transporting novel 2y

Last half of November wrap up I loved the new Charlotte Holmes book. The Deavabad Trilogy wrapped up beautifully. I'm really enjoying the Rivers of London series. Finally, I wish I had read Mister B Gone instead of listening to it because the whole conceite really revolved around the reader holding a tradition book in their hands.

The end of October reading. Stella Fortuna and Evelyn Hardcastle were really dark. Both of the Sloan novels were whimsical and really great. I'm bummed that I've got a 10 week wait on the second V E Schwab or I'd have already read the whole series by now. So good!

Currently reading The Ex Hex. The Night Circus and The Girls I've Been were solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s and I don't usually rate books at 5 stars (maybe a handful a year). All the trigger warnings for The Girls I've Been, but what a page turner! Also, Louise Penny continues to work her magic with the most recent installment to Inspector Gamache.

Today's mail. Still can't believe he's gone. 💔

Kimberlone Watched the documentary a few weeks ago, I was surprised that I didn‘t cry as much as I thought I would. Definitely want to read this. Have been a fan of his shows for years and read Kitchen Confidential and Medium Raw. 2y
AutumnRLS I struggled at the end of the documentary. I hate crying in public. I thought it was beautifully put together. I'm looking forward to hearing from more voices regarding his life. 2y

I do not like prequels, but I am a completionist and I hate reading books out of order. (You can only imagine how annoyed I felt when I realized I should have read Reid's cozy mystery featuring Cletus Winston BEFORE I read Roscoe's book). With all that being said, it is a testament to the writing and my love for these characters that propelled me through this one and directly on to the next. I'm ready for Billy to get his happily ever after.

Today's, and really every day's, reading companion.

BookNAround Schnauzers are the best! 3y
AutumnRLS @BookNAround I agree! Although I think she's probably as bad as your cat some days. She'll paw at my hand to try to make me pet her, lick in my ear if I tell her no, and then finally - sit in-between me and the book, put both her paws on my shoulder, and stare me in the face. 🤣 3y
BookNAround My schnauzer Gatsby can be rotten when I‘m trying to read too but mostly she‘s content to curl up on my lap and keep me company rather than making it hard to read. 3y

The Sentence Is Death | Anthony Horowitz

I almost quit this several times. The book itself was great, but the voice the narrator chose to give the adversarial police detective was so grating that I could hardly bear it. The character was awful and had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. That combo is lethal (pun intended). I definitely had the urge to throw my phone across the room several times while listening. I recommend you skip the audiobook on this one, and read it on the page.

Hello friends! It has been awhile. I've been slowly picking up the pieces of myself that got discarded during shut down when I became the defecto full-time educator of my 7 year old. He's back to school for now and I'm trying to get as many projects completed while I can. I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks as a result. I adore the narration for the above books, especially for the Louise Penny!

Currently listening to Bury Your Dead.

I loved A Study in Scarlet Women and was delighted to find there are 5 more!

2 a.m. at the Cat's Pajamas was a so-so for me. I didn't like any of the characters.

Normal People was interesting and rang true. I lived in Dublin and went to Trinity.

I was impressed that Moonflower pulled off the same trick as Magpie without being repetitive.

Rachel Bloom's reading of her memoir was wonderful.

Finally (!) finished The Good House. I struggled with that one all the way through. When the plot was moving, it was too scary. When it wasn't, the pacing was difficult. But honestly, I think I was the one with the issue this time, not the book. Looking forward to listening to Veronica Mars in time for my podcast to cover the books. I loved the show. So here goes... maybe this will help the reading slump I've fallen into.
