Fever of the bone
Fever of the bone | Val McDermid

'You should have been a detective. If there's one thing the last year has proved, it's how good you are at finding things out. Not simple things. Hard things. Things that nobody is supposed to be able to find out. Things that are buried so deep nobody even thinks twice about them. The sort of things that turn people's lives inside out once they're exposed.'Meet Tony Hill's most twisted adversary ? a killer with a shopping list of victims, a killer unmoved by youth and innocence, a killer driven by the most perverted of desires. The murder and mutilation of teenager Jennifer Maidment is horrific enough on its own. But it's not long before Tony realises it's just the start of a brutal and ruthless campaign that's targeting an apparently unconnected group of young people. Struggling with the newly-awakened ghosts of his own past and desperate for distraction in his work, Tony battles to find the answers that will give him personal and professional satisfaction in his most testing investigation yet.

This was a return to form after the ho-hum of the previous book: pacier with a tightly written plot. There's less gore in this one too as the murders happen 'off page' but there are still a couple of grisly descriptions of the aftermath. The conclusion also hints that there may be some movement in Tony & Carol's personal relationship at last. 4🌟

GA_Bookworm07 I so wish i could crochet. 6y
julesG ??? lovely pattern and yarn. (Don't remind me of "Starteritis" - I'm definitely a starter, tough on finishing.) 6y
Michelle_mck @julesG I needed something I would see progress on - the current shawl project is 4 ply yarn and I‘m at 400 stitches 1 I needed a break so DK and a Cowl what the doctor ordered / though my first time doing colourwork 😂😂😂 6y

Michelle_mck @Robothugs yes! You actually asked for something!!! Careful what you wish for my friend!! 6y
Robothugs Well in that case... just kidding! But I would cherish it forever! 😍 6y
kspenmoll Lovely pattern! 6y
julesG I know what you mean by visible progress. It's sometimes hard to see you're making headway. I still want to finish the "Nuvem" shawl I started ages ago. Why I decided on single ply yarn I cannot remember. Momentary lapse of sanity. It'll take me decades. 6y
ContraryMary Those colours are going to look fantastic together! Is that plucky? 6y

The re-read/listen of Tony and Carol continues, Home Alone! Bliss. Cast-on some Christmas gifting knitting, it‘s also a test knit - read yarn info incorrectly so when I “splurged because I only need one Skein” has become oh no because I need another $38AUD skein, though it‘s pretty, and is merino, cashmere and silk! Maybe I will keep it myself for the one day a head it‘s cold enough to wear it 😂😂😂 #audioknitting #knitting
