I would use this book in my classroom for beginners of learning about poetry and what poems are. It uses rhyming words and is short and simple and easy to understand for elementary students. It tells a beautiful story about a tree from birth to death.

This is a poetry book all about trees and leaves and birds on trees. It begins with a short poem about the seed and ends with a short poem about how the tree gets old. So, basically, it's all about the tree's life from beginning to end. It has rhyming words and the words on the page create a shape to fit the poem perfectly. Illustrations are beautiful yet simple.

This book has a lot of great poems. I read the poem “Roots“. It talks about the ways roots grow. It uses the letters in a vertical direction such as in the words: down and pours.

I would use this book in my classroom if I would ever teach about trees. It give descriptions of different trees and how they grow. I think it could be well implemented into the curriculum.

This book was very unique. Not only were the illustrations different then most that one may see in a book, the poems were as well. Although each poem was different, each was telling and describing a scene that was happening on the page.
I really liked the set up of this book. This was able to show me, and I imagine many other readers, that not all poems are different or have a completely different meaning with every new page.

A coworker sent this to me today and I thought Littens needed to see it. Am I right, @MrBook ?

Florian uses such clever formations in his poems. His poem titled “The Seed” is shaped into an infinity sign. His illustrations look almost as if they are made from water paint.

Poe trees published in 2010 by Douglas Florian is so unique. The orientation of the book is up and down, i love that!! Plus the illustrations are amazing.

I like this page because the word down is very good imagery and really good for kids

The illustrations really struck me and I found them to be so unique. Turns out that the illustrations were done with a variety of different mediums, but were all drawn onto paper bags to create a more “nature” feel.

I absolutely love this book of poems especially for a nature lesson. The layout is so unique that you have to turn the book sideways to see the full “tree” (which the illustrations are absolute gorgeous). I love the fact that the poems are creating not only imagery, but a feeling of how big or small the trees are.
