Setting up my old crappy nearly useless Asus tablet as a Kindle machine so I can read the books unavailable on my Kobo. It's a bigger screen than on my phone at least. Next up among those is Datura by Leena Krohn. Looking forward to it.

Sherlock is feeling left out and wants to know if catsnakes count for #InternationalCatDay. No, Sherlock, they don't. But you're cute anyway and clearly have a rough life, so I'll spoil you anyway. Pictured with my current read! Not tackling this whole thing yet, just Datura. Leena Krohn is quite something! Love the Vandermeers for putting her complete fiction into an anthology. 🐹💙 #TheBookishFerrets #PetsofLitsy #ReadWomen

CherylDeFranceschi Eee! Cutest Sherlock ever! 8y
BookishFeminist @CherylDeFranceschi He's just such a loaf today! He won't move bc it's hot. 😂 8y

Sara_Planz Sherlock is definitely a cutie 8y
SharonGoforth Of course they do, Sherlock! 8y
brendanmleonard What a cutie! I love that bright blue on the cover, too! 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Catsnakes! 😂 8y
SusanInTiburon Sherlock and Noodle are honorary cats. 8y
BookishFeminist @brendanmleonard He is! And yes I do too! It's very eye-catching especially since it's a doorstopper of a book. 8y
BookishFeminist @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled.com Yep, catsnakes! I saw someone refer to ferrets as that once and it totally fits. But they have many many nicknames. 🐈🐍 8y
BookishFeminist @SusanInTiburon Hahaha they appreciate that! (As if they don't get enough attention lol) 8y

Bailedbailed

Abandoned at the 50% mark. What the hell was this supposed to be about?

Angelala007 I know, right? 8y
Megabooks Sounds really bizarre! 8y
shawnmooney @Angelala007 @BookishFeminist @Waynegjr @Seonjoon Yes, Angela, it was absolutely dreadful. So guys, I've bailed. Feel free to discuss it amongst yourselves if you're so inclined… :-) 8y

Angelala007 We need to decide on another book to discuss together 8y
shawnmooney @Angelala007 are you still game for discussing the sparkle book you and I both were interested in? I am, starting in mid September… 8y
Angelala007 Yes! But it doesn't seem to be widely available. Where did you get your copy? 8y
shawnmooney @Angelala007 I got mine through a third-party seller on Amazon. I see it's also available on Kindle. 8y
Angelala007 Dude, I can't find it on kindle 8y
shawnmooney @Angelala007 Wow, you're right - it's not on the Canadian Amazon site but is on the American and the Japanese sites. Weird! 8y
shawnmooney @Angelala007 I just had a gander at your GoodReads TBR and I'd be delighted to read and discuss any one of these with you (and whoever else might be interested) beginning in mid-September or later: -A Month in the Country
-Attachments
-The Interestings
-The Big Rock Candy Mountain
-Sixpence House
8y
Angelala007 A Month In The Country! 8y
shawnmooney @Angelala007 Wonderful! Shall we invite others to join in or will this be a premium Canadian members special? 8y
Angelala007 Hmmm. Rather elitist of us to exclude the others wouldn't you say? 😛 8y
shawnmooney @Angelala007 Shall I take that as a "Yes"? :). I'll put up a post under the book title soon, inviting others. I first heard about this novel when Thomas recommended it on The Readers podcast last year. Looking forward to reading it! 8y
Waynegjr Hey y'all. For the better that this one didn't work out. Been pretty swamped with my new baby and all. My vote is also Turgenev's A Month in the Country, I've read a bunch of his novels, but never this play. It's been on my list for a long time. 8y

There may be spoilers in this New Yorker article - even the summary of the novel in the first paragraph is a wee bit of a spoiler, so be warned. But here it is: http://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/cracking-the-codes-of-leena-krohn

brendanmleonard Fun! Looking forward to following this discussion! 8y
BookishFeminist I know what I'm reading tomorrow! 😳 I've been out of town this weekend & forgot it's August tomorrow! 8y
BookishFeminist Also I got your tag post just fine, I think Litsy has been better with notifications since the newest update but I had lots of problems with it before too. 8y

shawnmooney @brendanmleonard Why don't you join us? You, and anyone else, is more than welcome. It's a short novel so you should be able to catch up fairly quickly. Just let me know, and I can tag you on future posts if you're going to participate. 8y
shawnmooney @BookishFeminist Yes I kind of forgot it's not August 1st everywhere! :) What's unstable, I worry, about Litsy since the update is I don't think I am getting all the posts in my feed by Litsytes I follow. :( 8y
BookishFeminist @shawnmooney Hmm. I haven't had that issue, but if you are you can always shake your phone to report the issue to @Litsy. They're great with taking note of things! 8y

@Seonjoon @BookishFeminist @Waynegjr @Angelala007 Here is a fresh page under the actual book title, with the first few paragraphs as a tease. I am looking forward to the discussion beginning in August. Any preferences/suggestions for discussion format? It's a short book so maybe as-a-whole?

BookishFeminist Or maybe we can break it up further & do first half then second half? I like that format best because it allows for a closer reading & thorough discussion. I'm a nerd for details. But you will be running the discussion so it is your call. :) 8y
shawnmooney @BookishFeminist ha ha - I am not running anything and like your suggestion! Have you done that format on Litsy before and if so was a schedule agreed to, for example a chapter a week or something like that? This book has about 47 chapters, most 5 pages or less so we could probably do more than 1/wk 8y
BookishFeminist Yea I like that idea- maybe split them evenly over either the whole month or a few weeks? It gives everyone time to juggle other things and it might curb the "oh shit I procrastinated this whole book until the last minute" problem that I know at least I have, lol. I haven't precisely done ... 8y

BookishFeminist ... this way on Litsy before but I don't imagine it would be difficult to set a few soft deadlines w/lower reading amounts & then "meet" to discuss. 8y
shawnmooney Great! The softcover is 202 pages. If we do the novel in a month, that's 50 pages, or about 12 chapters, a week. Questions: (1) do you want a more relaxed schedule, such as spread over 6 weeks instead of 4 weeks? (2) shall we begin the discussion in the first or the second week of August? 8y
BookishFeminist I'm completely fine with a month 👍🏼 Either start time is fine with me. 8y
shawnmooney @Seonjoon @Waynegjr @Angelala007 @BookishFeminist How about this schedule? Divided it into 3 sections with the middle one being longer because I'll be traveling then. Thoughts? 8y
shawnmooney @Seonjoon @Waynegjr @Angelala007 @BookishFeminist August 1-7: The First Seed Pod section
August 8-21: The Second Seed Pod section
August 22-31: The Third Seed Pod section
8y
Waynegjr Sounds great. I'm excited guys. 8y
shawnmooney My idea is that our discussion on each section would take place during that time period, i.e. we would have read the section beforehand. A different schedule is more than fine for me so please give me your thoughts! 8y
BookishFeminist I'm excited! 8y
Angelala007 @shawnmooney that schedule looks good to me. Good god, I'm thrilled to be among my people! 8y
shawnmooney @Seonjoon @BookishFeminist @Waynegjr @Angelala007 Hey everybody, looking forward to discussing The First Seed Pod section beginning on or about August 1! I'll start reading the novel soon. I will refrain from posting excerpts until August 1. Does anybody have any suggestions about how to discuss it on here? Each of us post separately & comment on each other's posts? Something more organized? At least we now have 451 characters to comment with! :) 8y

Very interested in this one. I've loved the Scandinavian translations I've read so far. Just bought it from Amazon. LITSY IS NOT HELPING MY BOOK BUYING ADDICTION. I'm ok with that :)

todd 📚📚📚That's a great addiction to have 📚📚📚 8y
BookishBron It sounds great! What have your favourite Scandi translations been? I'd love to get into reading some but not sure where to start! 8y
Angelala007 @BookishBron Henning Mankell is the first that springs to mind. I love his Kurt Wallander series. 8y
