The Changeover
The Changeover: A Supernatural Romance | Margaret Mahy
12 posts | 12 read | 13 to read
From the moment she saw the face in the mirror, Laura Chant knew that something dreadful was going to happen. The horrifyingly evil Carmody Braque touched and branded her little brother - and now Jacko was very ill, getting steadily worse. There was only one way to save him. Laura had to change over: had to release her supernatural powers.

I wasn‘t sure how I would go with this book as it was written way back in the 80s, but surprisingly I loved it. The plot is really rather different than I have read before and the story got me interested fast! I have been trying to find where I can stream the movie but unfortunately it‘s not on any of our services.

Staying home today so I can rest. There is a storm brewing and it‘s so nice and quiet. Nature can provide the perfect backdrop at times.

This one has been on my TBT for a LONG time. Looking forward to seeing if it‘s as good as I hope!

Had lunch with Mum and then ventured out for a spot of thrifting - almost bought this one - but spotted a truely unfortunate amount of mould along the top edge...

Lindy Eek! It‘s a great book, but mouldy copies should be put to their final rest. 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Lindy, I agree. They pose a risk to non mouldy books. I hope to find a non mouldy copy one day - the blurb was very intriguing! 4y
CaramelLunacy I really loved that one when I was a teen. Shame about the mould 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CaramelLunacy, I‘m half convinced I‘ve got a paperback copy somewhere at home... (edited) 4y

I carried this book with me everywhere in my teen years. I have no idea what happened to my copy but as time went, I forgot the title, but I would talk about off and on. No one I knew had ever read it or anything like it. I was reunited with this story after read an article on finding books you don't know the title of. Turns out lots of people have read it!! And it won awards!! The reread was pure nostalgia!

1. Saturday was the best!
2. I didn't used to be much of a rereader, but lately I've ran into a series (The Others) that just might get reread.
3. Toronto Raptors! (What's a Toronto Raptor?)
4. I carried around a copy of The Changeover by Margaret Mahy. It took a long time for me to figure out what the book was. Until recently, I couldn't remember anything but the plot! @Chrissyreadit Thanks for the tag!

Chrissyreadit I loved The Changeover. I‘ve had it for decades. 5y
QueenJen @Chrissyreadit I've talked about it so much over the years with people and no one knew what I was talking about. I read an article on how to find books based on plot (turns out Google is how) and I found it! Not only that, I learned Margaret Mahy is kind of a big deal! But you're the first person I've met that's read it too! 📚🥂 5y
Chrissyreadit @QueenJen I think you will find that changes with Litsy. It‘s amazing how a random obscure book will pop up and generate an engaged conversation. @LeahBergen is amazing with this on her page. 5y
LeahBergen @Chrissyreadit Well, what a lovely compliment! 😘😘 5y

I have read this book three times and I have been blown away three times. It is creepy, romantic, and empowering. Perfect for the season. The prose is delicious.

I read this when I was a kid in Fiji and it blew me away then. The other week I found out that it had been made into a movie so I dig out my copy and reread it. And damnit this is even better the second time around. The prose, the characters, the story. The focus of the book is the relationship b/w the siblings. The romance is really wonderfully done. If you are looking for a witchy book this Halloween, I recommend this.

I'm curious! Good ratings, a Laini Taylor recommendation, and it's now a movie. (NZ). The trailer definitely made me want to read the book. Anyone read this? #newzealand
