This isn‘t what I‘m supposed to be reading 😬 but I kinda took a look at page one and now I can‘t stop. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So good. Update: I really loved the premise and characters but I didn‘t realize this was a novella, and oh how I wanted the story to be longer and slower. Sigh. Still recommend if you‘re looking for a short fantasy read.

Did everyone see? How do we feel?

jpmcwisemorgan Kind of meh. It‘s Mags story so we kind of know what to expect. It also feels like it‘s so long after the books/movies that it‘s just for attention/money rather than still having a story to tell. I get kind of cynical about this sort of thing though. 6y
Bklover Prequels always disturb me for some reason. It‘s like knowing the ending already. Hope this is a good one! 6y
CharissaWeaksAuthor @jpmcwisemorgan @BKlover I did wonder “why now?” when it‘s a decade later, but I also have a writer brain and know crazier things have happened. I‘m not sure I‘m interested in the story line yet, but we shall see, I suppose. 6y
See All 21 Comments
Ashley_Nicoletto I feel like I would read Suzanne Collins shopping list so I‘m in. 🤣 6y
jpmcwisemorgan I just read a thread on Twitter that points out if this book does well it could generate interest in more YA dystopian because it‘s been long enough that it‘s a new generation of readers. And this is almost definitely a movie so it‘s going to bring a lot of attention to YA and possibly MG, which is good for a lot of people. So if you‘re writing YA or dystopian, or YA dystopian, there might be a larger market for you very soon. 6y
TheBookDream I feel like it should be a current events book, since it‘s billed as a Hunger Games prequel 6y
CharissaWeaksAuthor @Ashley_Nicoletto 😂 I was all in when the books came out, so I understand. I‘m totally curious but I think time has dampened my excitement. 6y
CharissaWeaksAuthor @jpmcwisemorgan I love dystopian so I hope that happens. 6y
OrangeMooseReads I was hoping that it would go back to before the games began but I‘m still interested in reading it. 6y
MoonWitch94 I only want it if it can seamlessly fit into the world of Panem & makes sense. Otherwise, no thanks. 6y
LibrarianRyan I'm excited. I am a major fan of the books (movies not so much) . I find it interestig that she is going back 64 years, which would be 10 years of hunger games, instead of to the civil war that started it. But I cant wait to read it. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @LibrarianRyan Yes, I liked the books better. I don‘t know if I‘d want a book about the cause, starting toward the beginning seems ok but I don‘t know if it‘s going to work for a character we already met. Unless maybe we find out she was part of some sort of resistance for all the years leading up to Katniss. That could be interesting. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m actually an outlier here... I‘m pretty excited! The fact that she waited years to write a prequel, to me at least, means she thought of a great story that she needed to tell... instead of just pressured to write something in the same world ASAP. Unlike some people who are off writing prequels before they finish their main series (George R.R. Martin) sorry I‘m still annoyed at him for that... that felt like a 💰 move to sell another series. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ll also say, I‘m excited to learn its Mags... she was a great character who had no voice in the original story... so to give her a voice now appeals to me. I‘m more interested now that it‘s her, than say Hamish‘s story or the same story from Gale‘s POV. To me that means it‘s something completely new and not a rehash of one of the stories we already know. 6y
LibrarianRyan @jpmcwisemorgan But do you think we will actually see any of the characters we already know? 64 years is a big difference. Maybe President Snow as a teenager, but most of the characters in the original books are not that old. 6y
LibrarianRyan @jpmcwisemorgan Okay, I hadn't read the other entry that the book was about Mags. Now that I know that, hummmmmm 6y
LibrarianRyan @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes, I agree. and to go back so far, a lot can change in 64 years. The Hunger Games may look completely different then to how they did during the original series timeline. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @LibrarianRyan I know, I hadn‘t heard that either until I saw it in the comments....I hope that intel is good, that‘s interesting. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @LibrarianRyan I saw elsewhere it‘s about Mags but maybe it‘s not. It does have to do with a failed rebellion. 6y
enidkeaner I enjoyed the series but all I can think is: why and why now? 6y

Okay. I can understand why some don‘t like this book. If you need plot or rising action, a story that naturally leads to a climactic end, this is not that book. This is a generational tale of witches. No more. I still loved it, & I‘m a plotter, so 🤷🏻‍♀️. Some of the tales really stuck with me, and I wanted more. The writing is beautiful. The family connections in the end got to my heart. Also, the audio is lovely.
