I first read these books by Rosamond du Jardin back in middle school in the 70s. They are all about teen romance in the 50s and 60s--when you went to the malt shop after school, came home, and Mom had milk and cookies waiting for you while you sat at the kitchen table looking out of the window with the chintz curtains. Absolute nostalgia overload.

A Pam and Penny story from the 1950s; I still adore these. 😀

Eggs My mom would have adored this - she always hoped her identical twin daughters would have a double wedding with identical twin grooms 9mo
dabbe @Eggs Are you an identical twin? 🤩 These books are such a part of my childhood. There are four Pam and Penny books, and I still read them over and over again. I love all of the 50s nostalgia, too! 💙🩵💙 9mo
Eggs @dabbe I am not a twin; I was the much later baby. My twin sisters had already left for college when I was born. Any idea where to find this book? BTW, the twins led totally opposite lives; 1 married w 7 kids and the other a nun 9mo
dabbe @Eggs Wow! That's quite an age gap! How interesting that they led such different lives, too! The book is on Amazon for $17-18 in paperback, but they're published by Image Cascade and are cheaper there. Here's the link:

Pickpick

Which one would ask these questions: seniors in college in 1950 or today?
-What is an education?
-Can we really change things?
-Must we go along with the crowd?
-What are we here for?
-What good can we accomplish?
Answer? “No one knew the answers.“ All these questions are in this book from the 1950s. I still see relevance today. Thanks for the journey yet again, Pam & Penny. I'll come back to you again when I need to. 🧡💜💛

PageShifter 💜💜 I can relate to these questions too in this moment 💔 1y

dabbe @TheLudicReader Well, if you're ever ready to OD on the 50s and the angst of teenagers at the malt shop, these are the books for you! According to good ol' Wikipedia: “[she is] best known for 17 books for teen girls published in the 1950s and 1960s. Her work is of enduring interest in gender studies because it provides a useful view of 1950s norms and rites of passage.“ I have all of them, and they will remain on my shelves forever. 🩵🖤💙 1y
