Mother Knows Best: A Novel of Suspense | Kira Peikoff
13 posts | 15 read | 13 to read
A mother's worst nightmare, a chance at redemption, and a deadly secret that haunts a family across the generations. There's only room for one mother in this family. Claire Abrams's dreams became a nightmare when she passed on a genetic mutation that killed her little boy. Now she wants a second chance to be a mother, and finds it in Robert Nash, a maverick fertility doctor who works under the radar with Jillian Hendricks, a cunning young scientist bent on making her mark--and seducing her boss. Claire, Robert, and Jillian work together to create the world's first baby with three genetic parents--an unprecedented feat that could eliminate inherited disease. But when word of their illegal experiment leaks to the wrong person, Robert escapes into hiding with the now-pregnant Claire, leaving Jillian to serve out a prison sentence that destroys her future. Ten years later, a spunky girl named Abigail begins to understand that all is not right with the reclusive man and woman she knows as her parents. But the family's problems are only beginning. Jillian, hardened by a decade of jealousy and loss, has returned--and nothing will stop her from reuniting with the man and daughter who should have been hers. Past, present, and future converge in this mesmerizing psychological thriller from critically acclaimed author Kira Peikoff.

Definitely a fast paced thriller told from three POVs. Had a few twists that came about in ways I didn‘t see coming right away that I enjoyed. 3.5⭐️

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Interesting and unique premise. I think the story was well developed most of the way through. Where it fell apart for me a little was the actions of the antagonist - I think I just expected a teensy bit more psychological warfare. Overall a good read, though.

The science in this is very palatable even if you're not usually into science fiction or medical thrillers. It felt like the author knew something about DNA manipulating and the like. There are a few cheesy/over the top moments and at least one bout of crazy, maybe a few...but it all comes together in the end, in one entertaining package. It doesn't hurt that this is on the Audible Plus either.

I‘m on stay-cay until Thursday, so I figured I‘d do nothing productive today until I finished this read! Well-written, and although a tad out-of-the-box at times, still a great thriller!

This is a fast-paced read - sort of a medically inspired Fatal Attraction. Told through multiple perspectives this book moves quickly and it‘s never boring. But the plot crosses the line into sheer incredulity. The characters don‘t feel quite realistic either. Still it‘s entertaining enough! Thanks, #NetGalley!

ReadingisMyPassion I just finished this book last night. It was soooo good. 5y

Claire is a mother who suffered through the unimaginable - the loss of her son. Even worse, it was because of a fatal gene she passed on to him.

When she and her husband are ready to try again, Claire seeks the help of a doctor willing to put the odds in her favor. What if they could take her good genes and mix them with another woman, giving the child one father but two mothers, but ensuring a healthy baby?

So intriguing and worth reading!

KristenDuck A huge thanks to NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!! 5y
