Perfect book for Thanksgiving!

This turkey does not want to be the farmer‘s Thanksgiving dinner so she tries on different disguises. Surely the farmer wouldn‘t eat a horse!

Very silly costumes as the turkey attempts to disguise himself before Thanksgiving.

Here‘s a peak at my cheese and cracker platter from my Friendsgiving dinner last night! Had a little turkey inspiration...

The Testaments: A Novel | Margaret Atwood

Awesome!

Loved the Handmaid‘s Tale (book and series), and The Testaments definitely gave more insight into characters, like good old Aunt Lydia!

Of course, nothing will be as good as The Handmaid‘s Tale.

However this book definitely made a name for itself! Told from the perspective of three women, all of different backgrounds, we learn of each‘s part in the take down of Gilead.

We all knew it was coming, but who helped with its destruction?

ReadingDownUnder I think I loved this even more than Handmaid!! 2d

Not going to be a popular opinion but I didn‘t love this one.

Maybe it was because I could not personally connect with any characters.

Maybe it was (at times extremely) slow pace, though the ending picked up.

Maybe it was because I literally found myself rolling my eyes and saying “seriously?” more than once.

Or maybe because I can‘t see myself in Alaska!

I appreciate the detail of life in Alaska and character development. Just not the best.

Maude I think I had the same issues, the pacing was off and I liked the secondary characters much more than the main ones. 3d
KristenDuck @Maude completely agree. And I just couldn‘t really bring myself to really care for Leni or her mother very much! Which hindered my reading pace. 3d
SamAnne @Maude you are not alone. I haven‘t read this one because I disliked the Nightingale. Couldn‘t believe in the characters or the story. (edited) 3d

Maybe I should have waited a bit longer before diving right into this one after finishing To Kill a Mockingbird.

The love I had for TKAM just isn‘t quite there with this one. I love the character of Scout still but was heartbroken to learn more of my adored Atticus. Don‘t want to send out any spoilers, but sometimes it is best not to know everything about a person.

I really liked hearing the flashbacks from her childhood, but overall just meh.

tjwill Agreed. 3d
bookishbitch I refuse to read this one. I don't think the author ever wanted it published. 3d
Scochrane26 I liked this one, but it had been a long time since I read TKAM. I‘m not sure anything would have lived up to TKAM. 3d

KristenDuck @tjwill and @Scochrane26 I‘m glad I‘m not alone in my opinion! 3d
shadowspeak17 I think the flashbacks were the only part of this book that I enjoyed. 😂🙃 3d
Honeybeegirl I know I have the unpopular opinion, I didn‘t love TKAM, but I loved GSAW! At the time I read GSAW I was in a similar situation to Scout at that point in her life, so it resonated with me more. I was able to put myself in Scouts shoes, but in TKAM I didn‘t get that same connection to the characters. 3d

Wow! Five bright stars for To Kill a Mockingbird.

Yes I have been living under a rock since I have never read or been exposed to this classic novel.

This is the story of the very likable Scout, whose white father is about to stand up for a black man accused of rape. The tale of the loss of innocence, the battle of standing up for what is right even when no one stands beside you... just awesome.

I loved this book, and i recommend it to anyone.

Little Virginia wanted to believe in Santa Claus, even when everyone was saying he wasn‘t real. So she wrote a letter to her newspaper to see if it was so, and the response she received fills me with joy every time I read it.

Based on the true story, children are sure to love this adaptation with the real letter and response included. Such bright illustrations as well!

After Anna | Lisa Scottoline
post image
Pickpick

Definitely a pick, especially for fans of Lisa Scottoline!!

Due to postpartum psychosis, and an unforgiving ex-husband, Maggie had to let go of her baby, Anna, shortly after she was born.

Now, over ten years later, Anna is back, and wants to reunite with her mom! It is everything Maggie ever hopes for. But will things go as smoothly as she had hoped?

Loved the plot line, the twist, and the format the story was told in - before and after Anna.

Duck for President | Doreen Cronin

My Kindergarten is learning about the presidents for the month of November, starting with George Washington! Each student created their own little representation of our first president.

Duck For President is a fun book about a duck who is tired of farm life and ready to be the one who has a day. Of course, ducks are the only ones who understand him, but his charisma carries him up to the White House!

Great children‘s book for elections.

Oh boy let‘s be honest...

Some characters are MUCH more intriguing than others. I seriously could have skipped past some chapters and been okay with this one.

This story is still fun, and there are certainly memorable quotes and scenes as the fight continues for the real king to take throne.

I just could listen to Danaerys and Arya all day. There are also parts of Catelynn and Cersei that I enjoy. Some other (*cough* bran) mehhh...

MrT I gave up after the first book. Too many characters. Some you never hear of again and tbh the writing style is a lot to be desired. 2w

The more I process what I just finished reading, the more I realize what a brilliant piece of literature this truly is.

Life in the suburbs looks picture perfect, and no one displays that perfection better than Elena Richardson with her perfect husband and four children.

After Mia, a free-spirited artist, and daughter Pearl move to town, lines are drawn.

Is a baby best with it‘s true mother, or the parents who could give her the “perfect life?”

Couldn‘t go my whole life never reading Harry Potter, so now I can finally check this off my TBR list.

This was a fun quick read centering around Harry and his two best friends at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I loved seeing Harry, who had grown up with so little, get to experience so much with people who truly cared about him.

Even though I knew the twist in the ending beforehand, it is still well done. Overall, very enjoyable.

Not the best audiobook, not the worst but I definitely see how this series would appear more to a teen/young adult audience.

Ever is a regular teenage girl, except ever since losing her family in a tragic accident, she can see her dead sister and also get strong aura vibes for the people around her.

A new boy has peaked her interest but we quickly learn he is an immortal. Is he worth falling in love with?

Bottom line: Pediatric doctor Jill discovers her ex-husband died from an overdose, and his daughter (her previous stepdaughter) swears it was murder.

Not sure where this novel took a wrong turn for me, or if it was that rushed (and a bit confusing) ending, but this would not be a recommendation for most people.

Overall, too drawn out.

It was only suppose to be for a few days... weeks... just a couple months...

She promised her four beautiful children they wouldn‘t have to stay in the locked room together for long. Just until her father forgave her and placed her back into his will.

Then they would be free. Not only that - they would be rich!

But until then, the four children must never be seen or heard. For now, they can only have the attic.

Loved every dirty detail!

Completed another 5K run!

This morning I ran for St. Jude‘s Children Hospital in an effort to fund the end of childhood cancer in honor of my godson.

It was a beautiful day around the Philadelphia Zoo and such wonderful spirit in the air! It was an honor to be a part of this event.

My MS hasn‘t held me back yet. I love the sense of accomplishment that comes with placing my foot across that finish line!

Meltedy spoon...

Very similar to the book, but so far I think I‘m preferring the book to the movie.

I liked how the book was told from the boy‘s perspective. The movie is more of a general view. Overall worth watching though! Nice acting!

Clwojick I LOVED THE BOOK - I agree with you about the movie. It didn‘t have that “innocent” perspective that was done so well in the book. 2mo
ShyBookOwl Interesting perspective! I didn't read the book but I saw the movie twice. What I loved about it was that I actually did feel like it was his POV and I thought that worked SO WELL. I really felt the innocence too. The movie broke my heart. At times, I just couldn't breathe. I decided I wouldn't be able to handle the book. 2mo
KristenDuck @ShyBookOwl see I think you‘d appreciate the book! 2mo
ShyBookOwl @KristenDuck I'm sure I would... I just feel like it might break me a little too permanently lol 2mo
CafeMom I read the book but haven't seen the movie. I'm afraid the movie will break my heart. 2mo

Have to admit listening to this book I completely envision Bradley Cooper in the lead role. Great accompaniment for tonight‘s jog!

Taco Night made those 13,000 steps totally worth it!

They know they‘re not suppose to be on the dining room table...

(But they‘re just so cute each sitting on their own placemat! I can‘t get mad at those faces!)

Riveted_Reader_Melissa So cute! And of course that‘s where they are, that‘s where the sunbeam is shining. 2mo
Aaronlisa I like the looks on their faces. So cute 2mo

Love Lisa Scottoline books, and so far so good with this one! It was a good listen for tonight‘s jog and I‘m curious to see where it‘s heading!
