After reading the summary and seeing it was co-written by Gillian Anderson, I expected to read an X-Files story. And it kinda was but one of the lesser episodes. It kept my interest but the ending was 'meh' and they did not convince me to read the next 2 books for the overarching story.

#FirstImpressions are misleading with this audiobook...though the audio performance is impeccable and initially engaging, the end devolves into implausible actions and characters that no longer feel authentic... maybe the next two books in the saga fill in the many holes here, but until the audio is on a deep discount, I will have to #AudioColor to something else! #150PnPCoverParty @CrowCAH @LeahBergen

CrowCAH Interesting; nice coloring! 🌸 7y
LeahBergen I‘ve heard much of the same from other reviewers. 😬 7y
TorieStorieS Yeah... I had that same sense going in... but the beginning and the performance itself had me hoping that it wouldn‘t be true... I‘ve read a book before by just the (less-famous) co-author that I enjoyed so I thought maybe it could be good.... but it just isn‘t... still if the rest of the series is ever on Audible for less than $5 a book, I will listen! @LeahBergen 7y

So I bailed about 3/4 of the way through this. I think I could have made it to the end, but life is too short... It started off so well - mysterious and gripping, but by half way through I felt it lacked substance and hadn‘t made any progression 😔

I REALLY wanted to love this book because #GillianAnderson is my favorite but it was really painful. I won't finish this trilogy sadly. :(

Listening to Gillian Anderson read this was a pleasure - I miss her presence in my life.

But the story is trite, contrived, & incomplete as a standalone. It's shamelessly trying to ensnare me in a series - it's obvious early on that all the threads will not be woven together by the end. And it's not good enough for me to overlook all the plot holes. So this is a one-and-done for me.

Forget about a reading slump - my reading has been on fire this year. But my writing... Not so much. Gotta knock out some ARC reviews so I can continue to get them 😉. I'll let this finish while I type away...

Put on Titanic while I read a lil bit before bed. Kitteh is more interested in the movie than in what I'm reading at the moment!

I present to you my Mulder and Scully Barbie (and Ken) dolls along with the complimentary alien and, quite honestly, a whole lot of dust.

Yamich49 Omg this is amazing! 8y
ReadingOver50 I am curious if this book is any good. 8y
BookishFeminist @ReadingOver50 TBH it isn't really 😂 it's fun & quirky though! I'm gonna give the second one a shot and see if it gets better. 8y
bookishbunny Love these! And a good reminder that I still need to watch the new episodes. 8y
LitHousewife @BookishFeminist @ReadingOver50 Has anyone read either of David Duchovny's books? 8y
LitHousewife @SusanInTiburon 😍😍😍😍 Thank you. 8y
BookishFeminist @LitHousewife I started his first one a while ago and set it down bc I wasn't in the mood. It's funny! I'll see if I can find it at the library and will report back 8y
LitHousewife @BookishFeminist I will be eagerly awaiting your review. 8y
SusanInTiburon @LitHousewife in my comment above, "pshaw" was autocorrected to Oshawa. I don't get why autocorrect prefers Oshawa to pshaw, but O-well. You seem to have got the gist of my remark, but I did feel the need to point out I wasn't trying to be quite that inscrutable. ? 8y

Sorry not sorry for the X-Files spam this week. HAPPY BDAY TO GILLIAN ANDERSON, the role model I looked up to most as a kid while my mom let me stay up late and watch X-Files. She's an author of quirky science fiction thrillers now. The last of her EarthEnd Saga comes out this Sept. Scully is an awesome bookish character, often pictured with book & wine on her time off. Anderson is also in Neil Gaiman's upcoming adaption of American Gods! 👽👩💼

Yamich49 Love Scully and love Gillian Anderson even more!😍😘 8y
Alisnazzy And she also kills it as Dickensian characters on screen. Her performance in Bleak House still haunts me in the best way. 8y
AlienBritt How did I not know she wrote these? 🙀😻🙀 8y

angrylilasian I love her!! I really really hope they bring back the show for another season! 8y
BekahB I don't think I have the words to explain how excited I am for American Gods. After I saw the trailer, I decided I need to read it again! So good!! 8y
BookishFeminist @BekahB I'm gonna do a reread too! Wanna join me?! 8y
Sydsavvy She was awesome in this year's War and Peace on the History Channel, too. I couldn't believe it when I saw her. 8y
BekahB Definitely! I loved this! I need to track down a new copy. Like so many good books that I wanted others to read, I never got this one back the last time I lent it out. 😄 8y
LitHousewife She grew up in my hometown. I ❤️her. 😍 8y
WordWaller WHAT I didn't know she wrote books! I just noticed that she is so badass even now. I NEED to finish X-Files and also watch new things she stars in! 8y
WordWaller @Ambrosnazzy I LOVED HER IN BLEAK HOUSE 💖💖💖 8y
LA_Mead OMG I had no idea she wrote books! Just going to head out to the book store... 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 I agree! Scully is my patronus for real as a character but Gillian Anderson is just a great human. Have you seen the photos of her in her costume for American Gods?! YOWZA. She looks like Lucille Ball! 8y
BookishFeminist @Ambrosnazzy @wordwaller AHH I NEED TO WATCH HER IN BLEAK HOUSE NOW WHERE CAN I FIND IT 8y
BookishFeminist @Brittany They weren't well publicized and TBH aren't the best sci fi 😂 but it's Gillian Anderson so who cares! 8y
BookishFeminist @angrylilasian I've heard they're going to do a longer season! No official news yet but odds are high & I can't waitb 8y
BookishFeminist @Sydsavvy she was in War & Peace too?! Omg is it online so I can watch the heck out of that? 😍 8y
BookishFeminist @BekahB 😱😱 I would give someone a kidney before lending any of my copies of American Gods lol. But yes, let's do this! 8y
BookishFeminist @LitHousewife SO JEALOUS!! If you have any awesome stories about her I think this post is all ears 👂🏻 8y
BookishFeminist @WordWaller YOU NEED TO FINISH X-FILES GIRL. Omg it's so good if you need to talk about it let me know ill give you my # for texting you through the episodes I could just cry, it's my favorite 😭 8y
AlienBritt @BookishFeminist exactly! I'm not sure I could adequately express my love for Gillian Anderson and how much I wouldn't care lol. 8y
BookishFeminist @LA_Mead She does! Don't go into them with high hopes but they are fun! Just not the best lol 8y
LitHousewife @BookishFeminist One week I substitute taught her sister. I figured out pretty quickly that she didn't want to talk about her sister as much as I did. 😁 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 @Ambrosnazzy @brittany @angrylilasian @BekahB @Sydsavvy @LitHousewife @WordWaller @LA_Mead Have any of you watched her in The Fall? ITS SO GOOD. Also I need to watch Hannibal for her appearances!! 8y
BookishFeminist @LitHousewife 😂😂😂 I just died and went to heaven, that's amazing! It's too bad Gillian lives in London now and is all famous and stuff! 8y
LitHousewife @BookishFeminist Out paths never crossed. She was long gone before I watched The X-Files, but it's neat to know we have both lived in the same city at the same time. LOL! I have her Barbie Doll in my house. I even suffered through House of Mirth for her. 🙂 8y
BookishFeminist @LitHousewife OMG SHE HAS A BARBIE DOLL?! I need to see this. I would suffer through anything for her. 8y
AlienBritt @BookishFeminist I haven't, but I will if it happens to be on Canadian Netflix 8y
LitHousewife @BookishFeminist Your wish is my command. Check your notifications. 🙂 8y
angrylilasian I haven't! I don't watch much tv. She's coming to Chicago for Wizard World and I'm desperately trying to find the money to get a photo op with her!! 8y
Yamich49 @BookishFeminist Ugh yes she is spectacular in The Fall. I have no words to describe how much I love her gorgeous, badass, smart, misandrist, bisexual character (I think that's how she identifies? Maybe pansexual? Or maybe she would tell us to fuck off and not worry about it?). And you should watch Hannibal! I don't think they used her as much as they could have but that show is beautifully ridiculous and very gay. 👍 8y
BookishFeminist @angrylilasian I would pay lots of money for that! I need her to come to a con near here. 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 I think I've seen her identify as an "I don't give a fuck" sexual, lol. She's open to anything and eschews labels! but yes I agree. All of her characters are amazing. Totally going to watch Hannibal during the rest of the summer. And I can't even express how much I'm looking forward to watching her in American Gods. Dream come true! 8y
