Generally I have a difficult time listening to audiobooks, but this one captured me. I don't know if it was the Parisian setting and the wonderful descriptions of the city or Richard Armitage being one of the narrators (that man could make the phone book sound sexy), but I always hated when I needed to stop this book to do other things. A fun story that will have you daydreaming about the City of Light. 👇

This has been a great series so far and, in my opinion, this is the best one yet. Devon and Gerard have a new case and are off to Edinburgh. Life, of course, continues to get more complicated for Devon in a number of ways. She just doesn't seem to get a break. Some of the 'New Woman' writers will some day start an idea that men and women should be allowed to see each other asleep before proposing or accepting. But I suppose the New Woman won't condescend in future to accept; she will do the proposing herself. And a nice job she will make of it, too!

Since Dmitri was not one of my favorite characters in the previous books, I was just reading this one to get through it to move on to the next book. I wasn't expecting Singh to create a backstory for him that would break my heart. I ended up enjoying his and Honor's story, although there was a plot line that I'm not really sure what to think of. Overall though, my favorite book in the series so far. I love when an author can surprise you like that

I have had the three currently available volumes on my tbr for a little while now. I finally picked this up and loved it. I love the 80s references, badass girls, sci-fi elements and remembering my (brief) stint as a paper girl in the early 80s. I'll definitely be picking up the second volume soon.

Another Jill Shalvis win for me. I'm loving this series and can hardly wait for my library hold to come in for the next one. Elle is one my favorite characters, so I was happy to get to her and Archer's story.

For some reason, I wasn't expecting to like this book. From the beginning, though, I found it difficult to put down. I had never heard of Fasting Girls before but I definitely want to research them now. The story touches on issues such as cultural prejudice, religion vs science, role of women, etc. It seems that My Cousin Rachel may have some competition for fave book of the year (so far, at least).

So, I've always been intimidated by science fiction. I read Dark Matter last year and really liked it, but haven't read anymore since. I'd like to try to fix that and maybe add a sci-fi book a month into my tbr. Any recs for a sci-fi newb to ease her into the genre? I've also just heard of cli-fi, so if anyone has recs for where to start with that, too, I'd appreciate them. Thanks, Littens!

I also have this one on hand for a lighter read and my relaxing before sleep book. I've read a few of hers now and have enjoyed them all so far.

I'm sure it goes without saying, that being snowed in is a good time to start a new book. I'm only a few pages into this one, but enjoying it so far. I've seen some mixed reviews on this one, so I'm crossing my fingers it stays that way.

This is a short story collection set in Singh's Guild Hunters world. Three of them take place prior to the events in the series. One takes place after book three. I was a bit wary after the first story. I didn't like that one much as it felt like I was reading a few chapters from the middle of a book rather that a completely rendered story. The other three were all better done and I found myself drawn into each.

The female friendship here is wonderful and, at times, hilarious. They are so supportive of each other. This also goes for the men in this core group when present. Petunia is so much fun. She is either the antichrist or a sweet cat depending on if you ask Keane or Willa (respectively). And, of course, there's the romance between Keane and Willa - touching, hilarious and steamy in turn. If you're looking for a fun read I'd recommend this series.

My favorite book of the year so far! And one that will be hard to beat. An unreliable narrator. Complexity. Ambiguity. Subtlety. Gothic sensibility. All of these combined to absolute perfection. Now I can finally watch the movie. I had been waiting to read the book from the library first and there had been quite a waitlist!

Wow! What a ride! I loved the book-within-a-book concept and the way fact and fiction kept merging and blurring. I figured a lot of it out but not quite all. I do want to reread this soon to look for clues I may have missed in the "novel" chapters of the book. Well written. Fast and fantastic read. 4.5 ⭐s. #spookathon

I had heard excellent things about this series and it was exactly what I needed to pull me out of a massive reading slump. I can't remember the last time I was so sucked into a world that I fell asleep reading because I refused to put down the book. I adored the characters and was intrigued by the politics. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. I have the next four on order from Thriftbooks, so I have to (impatiently) wait to find out.

Looking forward to these new books for my never ending TBR. Does anyone else wish they were a cat? I can't be the only one here who would need nine lives to get through their entire TBR, right?

I wasn't sure that I was going to like this book. Honestly, when I picked it up I was just trying it in expectation of unhauling it. By the end of the first chapter, though, I was hooked. The world building was strong. The characters were well-developed and three-dimensional. The plot was fast paced enough to maintain my interest. Despite a few shortcomings, I was pleasantly surprised and am definitely interested in seeing where this story goes.

4.5/5⭐ As an aspiring YA author, I thought I should start reading more of it again. You've Got Mail is one of my fave movies and I ❤retellings. The characters rang true from what I remember of being a teen. I could also relate to the importance of music at that age. The book is well written & I loved the characters. This is the first book by Kasie West that I've read and I plan on reading more as I feel I could learn more about the craft from her.

3.5 stars. It had been far too long since I read a Golden Age mystery so I really enjoyed this. It wasn't perfect. It had some of the too convenient plot points that can be characteristic of the time. I also found Margot to become increasingly annoying after the first few chapters. It didn't help that I figured out the big reveal (who is Grey Mask) long before it was revealed.

Still more books for my summer tbr. Thank goodness this semester is almost over!!!! It's been a rough one. So ready for fun, relaxing reading! 📚🍷

Although I'm sure there was some interesting info in there, this is a textbook example of an academic taking what should have been an interesting topic and making it as mind-numbingly boring and meaningless as possible. I don't expect sparkling prose from academic writing, but I've also read enough books and journal articles to know that it can be done in an engaging manner. If I hadn't had to read this for class, I would have dnf'ed it long ago.

Going to start this one today and continue Stephen King's On Writing. (Homework? What is this homework of which you speak? 🙄) Anyway, I'm loving this cover and can hardly wait to dive in! #litsypartyofone

It may only be February, but I already know that this book will make it onto my list of favorites for the year. I don't want to say too much about this book because it's hard to do so without spoiling it. Let's just say it's about the choices we make set in some twisted, quantum fun. I don't normally read sci-fi, but this makes me want to explore the genre more, as well as do some research into quantum mechanics. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Encouraging to see that my mind is not the only one that wanders down these weird, twisted paths. Mine may not use the same vocabulary (I'm a humanities nerd, not a science one), but the concept is the same. Still loving this book and enjoying having a snow day to make serious progress in it.

I'll be meeting up with my class at the art museum a little later, but came in early to visit some of my favorite works. I wonder if the staff would notice if I moved in? I think I found the perfect reading niche.

This may be the book that finally gets me off my butt (or maybe I should say on it) to start writing. King is king.

Maybe it's just because I'm not that into poetry, but I was underwhelmed by this collection. There were a few poems that I really liked, but most just fell flat for me.

It's the beautiful thing about youth. There's a weightlessness that permeates everything because no damning choices have been made, no paths committed to, and the road forking out ahead is pure, unlimited potential.

Somewhere between a pick and so-so. This was nothing groundbreaking and at times cliche. It was still, however, a fun read that made me want to keep going to see how the predictable ending played out. For a horror story, it never really got scary. It was just enjoyable fluffy brain candy.

Original Pottermore had sorted me into Ravenclaw while the new site has me in Slytherin. This one, however, seems to really get me!

Looking forward to some creepy good times!

I really wanted to love this book because I love the time period and setting (England post-Norman Conquest). The main problems were inconsistent timeline within the story (seasons/duration of time changing within a paragraph or page) and the mentioning of "I'm an Anglo-Saxon and you're a Norman" (or vice versa) on almost every page. This should have been a great book, but these problems made it just an OK one for me.

It took a little bit for me to get into this book. I think I had gotten so used to the characters from the Percy Jackson series that it took a little while to warm up to new ones. They finally grew on me and the book took off from there. Once again present are all the action, adventure and humor that you can expect from a Rick Riordan book. I definitely needed those laugh-out-loud moments.

I had to read this for my Byzantine art class. It was really quite interesting and gave a lot of information for such a short book, particularly on the reign of Diocletian. I just wish the Latin, Greek and French he used at times had been translated. It's been a long time since I studied French and Latin (both only at a beginner level) and I never studied Greek.
