A short prequel story, the beginning of the Newsflesh series, which sets up the Kellis-Amberlee virus: a man-made cure for cancer merges with a man-made cure for the common cold and the world falls fast. I felt so much dread, especially since I‘m [now] pretty familiar with things like reliable news sources, modes of virus transmission, and talk of vaccines.

By the end of the story, I am firmly in a world that is in bad, bad shape.

5/5⭐ Mira Grant is a master of the short story. I loved the insights into several different perspectives over the timeline of Countdown. It was absolutely terrifying reading about the onset of a global pandemic during a global pandemic. #bookspinbingo @thearomaofbooks

Repost from @dariazeoli :
I‘ll be 39 next month. My Litfluence is about the same as my age (38.967 🤣) & I hit 700 followers today, so I‘m giving away books!

I‘ve not read the 2 mysteries, but read & enjoyed the other 2, which were sent to me by the publisher for review. Want the lot? Post with #Countdownto39Giveaway and tell me 1 book you want to read by your next birthday!

I‘ll choose a winner when I wake up on New Year‘s Day. Sorry, US only.

dariazeoli Thanks for sharing! 7y

Jess7 Thanks for participating 🤗 I love the movie #TheNeverEndingStory but I haven't read the book. My husband and I kid that our white miniature schnauzer (Parker) looks like Falcore. 😂 7y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a good (short!) book to kick off October with! I chose it to complete one of the #popsugarreadingchallenge categories - read a book and its prequel. I enjoyed Feed earlier this year, and I enjoyed Countdown as well. My heart broke just a tiny bit over Marigold. 💔 Why is it that the human deaths I was like, yeah yeah, but dog deaths = 😭😭😭. Something is wrong with me.

mllemay I'm the same with human deaths and pet deaths 😬 I don't know what it means about us... 8y
Chessa @mllemay Well, I'm glad that I'm not the only one! ❤️👍🏻 8y
