I moved to San Francisco as an adult, so I only knew the superficial details of its history. This book takes a much deeper dive and made me realize how much was happening all at the same time! The details weren‘t emotionally easy to read sometimes, but it‘s a fascinating story and profoundly changed how I feel about my new hometown.

The boyfriend and I carved our first pumpkins together!! It‘s been almost 4 years together and we‘ve never managed to do it before lol, but that‘s what I get for dating someone whose favorite holiday is Christmas 🤪 Now to finish my book and roast some pumpkin seeds

I started this book to gain a more in-depth understanding of the history of San Francisco, my city of residence. Sadly, it didn't live up to the excitement I had when I bought it. The author limits his focus to events already thoroughly rehashed: the rise of '60s city counterculture, the murder and mayhem that rocked the '70s, ending with the AIDS crisis and 49ers football fandom in the '80s. I felt like I gleaned nothing particularly new.

This was a well written look at a small bit of San Francisco history.
