This is the second book in the Corfu Trilogy.

We meet the Durrell‘s again with their old and new friends.
From what I got from the dialogue at the beginning, which is hilarious by the way, this book is taking place at the same time as the first one, but includes stories Gerald forget to tell in the first book. The same hilarious writing as in the first one.

AnneCecilie I finally read th second book @Catsandbooks and if I remember correctly you wanted to know my thoughts. (edited) 2y
Librarybelle Good choice! 2y

Catsandbooks Oh I'm so glad to hear that the second one was just as good! ☺️ 2y

Some of the olive trees had been producing crops like this for five hundred years, and for five hundred years the peasants had been gathering the olives in precisely the same way.

(I had no idea that olive trees could get this old.)

Okay, this second book in the Corfu trilogy may have even been better than the first. I love these stories about animals and this hilarious family all living on the island of Corfu. I‘ll definitely be reading the third book as soon as I can get my hands on a copy! So delightful!

LeahBergen Aren‘t they wonderful?? ❤️❤️ 6y
HotCocoaReads @LeahBergen Yes! I love his humor! 6y

Ho letto questo libro molti anni fa. Ma ne serbo un ricordo leggero e divertente. È stato un ottimo compagno! #animali #natura #vicendefamiliari

This book was very enjoyable to read. It is a memoir of Gerald Durrell, who was a famous advocate for nature and animals of all sorts. Very humorous in parts, poignant and sad in others. A fascinating read for those who are enjoying the Masterpiece series based on the book. 4 1/2 🌟

SaraFair I recently got this cheap thru Audible and loved it. I watch on Masterpiece too and was so surprised that those stories are real people. Did you know there are about 8 of them that he wrote? I would like to try others! 7y
Samplergal I have read two and am on hold for two more at my library. They are so enjoyable. Isn‘t the series wonderful? Such a great ensemble. @SaraFair (edited) 7y

#Bookmail ! I loved My Family and Other Animals so much that I ordered an old edition of the second in The Corfu Trilogy.

LeahBergen Have you read this one, @TheLondonBookworm ? 8y
TheLondonBookworm OMG!!!! I'm so glad you liked it so much :) I have read this one! In my opinion it's still rear although not quite as good at 1. My family still read bits of this out when we're together :) we're so sad! 8y
celtichik I looked him up online, he was quite prolific! Such an interesting family, even Margo wrote a book 8y

LeahBergen @TheLondonBookworm I was reading bits of the last one to my husband 😂 8y
LeahBergen @celtichik I know! It's crazy. I can see myself ordering Margo's book eventually, too. 😬 8y
ScorpioBookDreams I just bought My Family and Other Animals. Glad to hear you loved it so much! 8y
LeahBergen @ScorpioBookDreams It's really charming and sweet (and makes a good palate cleanser after finishing darker reads!). It's still definitely a product of its time though and not always "PC" (like most books of that era). 8y
ScorpioBookDreams @LeahBergen I recently watched the Durrells TV series and was itching to learn more about them all! 8y
Jinjer I watched the TV show & want to read the books. 8y
LeahBergen @ScorpioBookDreams @Jinjer I just watched it, too. I actually started the first book after watching the first two episodes 😀 8y

Inspired by tonight's episode, I scavenged through the basement to find books two and three of the series. (I read the first--My Family and Other Mammals--many years ago.). Best yet is the inscription in Fauna and Family: Mom, Since I'm so fauna you, I thought I'd give you this. Love, Tom. Christmas 1979.
