Poisoned Blade
Poisoned Blade | Kate Elliott
19 posts | 19 read | 19 to read
In this thrilling sequel to World Fantasy Award finalist Kate Elliott's captivating young adult debut, a girl immersed in high-stakes competition holds the fate of a kingdom in her hands. Now a Challenger, Jessamy is moving up the ranks of the Fives--the complex athletic contest favored by the lowliest Commoners and the loftiest Patrons alike. Pitted against far more formidable adversaries, success is Jes's only option, as her prize money is essential to keeping her hidden family alive. She leaps at the chance to tour the countryside and face more competitors, but then a fatal attack on her traveling party puts Jes at the center of the war that Lord Kalliarkos--the prince she still loves--is fighting against their country's enemies. With a sinister overlord watching her every move and Kal's life on the line, Jes must now become more than a Fives champion.... She must become a warrior.

Awake and ready to really put in work on this #24in48. And also on these cornflakes.

The tagged book also has my stack‘s best first line, for the hour 6 challenge:

“No one must suspect what I plan to do tonight.”

Here‘s my #24in48 stack - taking this opportunity to clear out some library books and wrap up a couple of series I‘ve been working on. (Or at least make some progress, the Vorkosigan series is 16+ books! And I started it a week ago. Possibly my perception of how long it should take to finish is a little skewed.)

2BR02B Ooh, those lovely Vorkosigan books. 😍 6y

Kate Elliott never disappoints. Poisoned Blade picks up just after Court of Fives. Once the action starts, it doesn't let up. Political intrigue, emotional upheavals, and danger abound in this strong middle volume. Read it. You won't be disappointed.

Love it when the sequel is as good as if not better than the first. Elliott's Poisoned Blade is such a book and her Court of Fives series is definitely one to read. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Excellent follow- up to Court of Fives. It starts just where the previous book ends and follows Jes as she becomes more involved in intrigue while trying to save her family.

Gettin' started! Not the most Christmas-y book, but it fits my current mood.

(Thanks to the publisher for the complimentary eARC)

I love listening to audiobooks during my commute, when I'm cooking, or just too lazy to read but still want to experience a great story. This week, #PoisonedBlade is keeping me company! #KateElliott #GameofFives #YA #amlistening #amreading #currentlyreading #wirn #audiobooks #audible

Mmm this book was calculating and predatory in the best of ways. It builds strongly on the world and characters presented in Court of Fives. It strongly reminds me of Tamora Pierce's Trickster duology, my favorite of her series. I will pretty much follow Kate Elliott anywhere though, so this review is heavily biased 😍

Road trip supplies!! Of course, I need a book to come with me. And if you glance at the door pocket, you'll notice my emergency copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, just in case 😉

BookFreakOut You can never have too many back-up books on a road trip! 8y

Can't wait for the last one in the series! I loved the fantasy Greco-Roman-Egyptian setting and the only thing I didn't really care for was the incipient love triangle.

BookFreakOut I've been interested in Court of Fives, maybe I'll wait until they're all out. Or maybe not, who can tell which way the reading winds will blow! 8y
