My other rounded corner Avon.This edition from 1964 .Roth‘s book was published originally in 1934.When I was digging into fiction related to the immigration experience, circa early 1900s,this book was a stand out as it was more psychological, digging deep on the difficulties & trauma of such a dramatic life change.
David is only 6 when he starts this journey with his loving mother & his resentful, distant father.

Leftcoastzen I think 2 things came into play that it didn‘t sell well in 1934 .The depression was pretty deep by then , books a luxury.Plus , I think it was too soon for people who had lived it to read about the darker elements of this experience. 3y

I'm following @batsy and recycling a post from an earlier challenge nearly three years ago. Published in 1934. It does a good job of showing the gap between what a person thinks/feels in their native tongue and what they are able to express in English.

Read this for a class many moons ago. I don't even remember what the class was called, but I remember this story of Jewish immigrants to NYC at the beginning of the twentieth century. It's a bit of an unsung modernist American classic, I think. #booktober #immigrantstories
