Quarantine
Quarantine: A Novel | Jim Crace
Jim Crace's novel is the brilliantly imagined story of Christ's forty days in the wilderness, a tale of three men, two women, and a curious wanderer whose peculiar fate is transformed into legend. Dazzling, gritty, and utterly compelling, Quarantine is a work at once timeless and timely - a parable for the ages.

“He preferred the pious habitats of lunatics and bats where he could live for forty days, hanging by his toes if need be, and not have any excuse for shifting his eyes from heaven for an instant.”

Beautifully written, entirely believable. Not for biblical literalists, but for the rest of us, a very powerful story. Highly recommended.

I first read this twenty years ago, time for a re_read. This book is the reason I keep them all.

I am enjoying this historical fiction about a number of people, including Jesus, doing their quarantine-a forty day fast in the desert for prayers and reflection. Reminds me a bit of The Red Tent or The Robe. I, on the other hand, am doing the opposite by indulging in a large glass of egg nog! 🎄#HolidaySpirits.

TricksyTails I love your drinking glass!! Is it vintage? 7y
ApoptyGina69 @TricksyTails Thanks! yes, I only have 3. I found them a couple years ago when my sister took me to the Goodwill BOOKSTORE in San Diego. Carried ‘em home in my suitcase! 7y
TricksyTails @ApoptyGina69 I would've done the same! I love vintage dishes. I've spent so much time in SD. How did I not know there was a Goodwill BOOKSTORE?! I would've left my clothes behind and filled my suitcase with all the books! 7y

Not for those who take the Bible literally, this book turns the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert tempted by the devil inside out and upside down. The writing is sometimes poetic, sometimes funny, even when the bare facts of the plot are horrific. I'll definitely read more by Crace. #LitsyAtoZ #letterQ @BookishMarginalia

This is probably still one of my favorites by Jim Crace, although I loved Being Dead as well. The book is essentially a reselling of Jesus' 40 days in the desert but is told partially from the perspectives of others searching for their own personal redemptions at the same time and place. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #maybookflowers #startswithq

Redwritinghood This is a great book. I read it a few years ago and loved it. 8y
