8 posts | 8 read | 1 to read
"The New York Times" bestseller that s changing America s diet is now perfect for younger readers What s for dinner? seemed like a simple question until journalist and supermarket detective Michael Pollan delved behind the scenes. From fast food and big organic to small farms and old-fashioned hunting and gathering, this young readers adaptation of Pollan s famous food-chain exploration encourages kids to consider the personal and global health implications of their food choices. In a smart, compelling format with updated facts, plenty of photos, graphs, and visuals, as well as a new afterword and backmatter, "The Omnivore s Dilemma" serves up a bold message to the generation that needs it most: It s time to take charge of our national eating habits and it starts with you."

Informative read. Easy listening. Similar to his In Defense of Food in the number of solid & accessible solutions presented for eating healthier. IDF goes more into the politics of food policy in America. This book is Pollan's journey and research to create a perfect meal. For young people? Well, the editor definitely kept in details that were more shockingly gross. Keep those kids hooked! At the end, Pollan offers a few ideas specific to kids.

Dolly This man is my hero. After reading, I forgot which book, I was almost afraid to say 'corn'. 😜 8y
DogMomIrene @Dolly 🤣😂🤣 I think that may have been In Defense of Foods. He made an observation about gas stations really being processed corn stations...ethanol outside for my car and high fructose corn sharp inside for me. Classic statement that I remember clearly...but sadly. 8y

Sometimes my SO drives me nuts with his penchant for being (or trying to be) a first adopter of various tech, but the speaker system we have is truly convenient for listening to audiobooks.

Switching back to print as I climb into bed. Going to try to read for two more hours tonight! #24in48

Tried some audiocoloring during #24in48 tonight. Pretty relaxing. I see the appeal. Of course, I was sitting on the floor coloring on top of the coffee table, so the pup got curious and a bit jealous. Didn't get far before I had to play some indoor fetch and tug-of-war with him.

I started listening to the Young Reader's Edition of The Omnivore's Dilemma as I walked the pup again this evening. Got home and decided to bust open a second Mexican Coke, which is my warped way of protesting high fructose corn syrup while maintaining some caffeination.

This book taught me a lot about how food is processed in the US, and makes me want to be more cognizant of what I put in my body. Essentially, the "omnivore's dilemma" is that it is hard to choose what to eat when we can eat anything.

Anabnieto Now i feel bad. I never have enough time anymore. I used to read a lot but lately work, chores and kid make it difficult. I guess I have to find time somewhere! Wish me luck 8y
BookMusings @Anabnieto don't feel bad! A lot of my reading time comes during chores and doing errands on audio! 😀 8y
