I was really pleased with this traditional Sherlockian pastiche, even if the ending did not quite satisfy.

Somehow this book just couldn't hold my interest. The mystery was good with some twists towards the end, but the story dragged, and the interactions between the characters were a bit boring.

B&N‘s #serialread for March.
I was reading this while also reading A Study in Scarlet Women: Lady Sherlock book 1 and A Case For Jamie (Charlotte Holmes series book 3)
I don‘t usually read multiple Sherlock books at the same time, but it happened. I enjoyed all of them and will be reading the next book in all three series. 🕵️‍♂️ 🕵️‍♀️ 💙

#serialreads is winning! I adored this and felt it was pretty true to Conan Doyle‘s style (aside from the darker crimes and being more graphic). I happen to be reading the second B&N Holmes anthology right now, so it was easy to compare the two, and keep myself really confused in the process. 🤣 I already purchased book two and can‘t wait to read it!! #barnesandnoble #nook #bnreadouts

I‘m behind on this one (haven‘t had much time for reading during our vacation so far). Super neat to be about to pull into Euston Station while reading about Homes and Watson leaving Euston Station!! #UK #london #euston #serialreads #barnesandnoble

Not one of the best Sherlock stories written by other authors, plot was hard to get through considering it could have been written very well.

I'm putting this one in the "not for me right now" category. I can't pinpoint a reason I'm not connecting to it, so I think I'm going to shelve it and try again at some other point.

Ok, so for today's #augustphotochallenge, I literally can't decide between Lizzy Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, Edna Pontellier from The Awakening, Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird, or Claire Fraser from Outlander. I love them all soooooo much and each of them has shaped me a little into who I am today. #favefemale

Sarah1960 Great list, however Claire from Outlander probably sneaks out in the lead for me. 8y

This is a fast read, definitely something one can read in an evening. It felt like it was written with modern adaptations of Sherlock in mind and the author acknowledges this. It did bug me a bit. It's a solid story and I enjoyed the expanded role of Mycroft.

So...this is happening, you know, because I'm not already reading a few other books and who said there was work to be done?! No regrets!

So...this happened. I finally replaced my missing library card (who knows where I stuck it) and I decided I needed to saunter through the stacks looking for anything that caught my eye. I found two before my friend rescued me, or saved me, or something.

Soscha Better the library than a bookstore. At least if you go wild at the library you can still keep a roof over your head. And you really do need a roof to keep your books under. 9y
jpmcwisemorgan @Soscha I'm trying to cull the physical books I have because I have limited space. I acquire a lot of ebooks on special and I thought, why am I not using the library more?! It's definitely cheaper. 9y

I wanted to love this book. Instead, I had to drag myself to the final page, and was left completely dissatisfied. The author acknowledges recent actors who influenced her work, and I could "hear" Martin Freeman in spots, but as a reflection of Doyle's work, it falls short.

This book has 4.5 of 5 stars on Amazon. Is it possible I picked up a different book? I'm 70% done and it is taking every ounce of willpower I have to finish it.

Joanne1 When my life got increasingly busy I leaned how to put I book down unfinished if I wasn't enjoying it. Life's too short and there are so many good reads. 9y
DGRachel @Joanne1 I usually only give a book 100 pages then I'll toss it aside. I just kept hoping this one would get better! 9y

Holmes pastiches tend to be hit or miss for me. While this is a decently written book, I did not find the plot very engaging. Likewise, there were some small character details that didn't jive with how I remembered Doyle's work.
