We Wish You Luck
We Wish You Luck: A Novel | Caroline Zancan
An exhilarating novel about a group of students who take revenge on a wunderkind professor after she destroys one of their own-- a story of collective drive to create, sabotage, and ultimately, to love. It doesn't take long for the students on Fielding campus to become obsessed with Hannah, Leslie and Jimmy. The three graduate students are mysterious, inaccessible, and brilliant. Leslie, glamorous and brash, has declared that she wants to write erotica and make millions. Hannah is quietly confident, loyal, elegantly beautiful, and the person they all want to be; and Jimmy is a haunted genius with no past. After Simone - young, bestselling author and erstwhile model - shows up as a visiting professor, and after everything that happened with her, the trio only become more notorious. Love. Death. Revenge. These age-old tropes come to life as the semesters unfold. The threesome came to study writing, to be writers, and this is the story they've woven together: of friendship and passion, of competition and envy, of creativity as life and death. Now, they submit this story, We Wish You Luck, for your reading pleasure.

I‘m not ready to pick my favorite read of the year (still a couple weeks left, so who knows) but most lists I see and hear about on podcasts include only books published during the current. Usually I read mostly backlist but this year I read 9 books published in 2020. Not a dud in the bunch. But I think my fav was All adults Here. #bestbook2020 #favread2020 #booklists

Prairiegirl_reading I can‘t choose! I had 20 five star reads this year! I‘m pretty sure that‘s a record. 4y
LeslieO @Prairiegirl_reading At least there was something good this year! 4y
Prairiegirl_reading @LeslieO I think maybe I was looking for fun books and found some that fit the bill (not exactly great literature but if I‘m the judge, I‘m the judge) 😄 but I did read some that unexpectedly blew me away! 4y
LeslieO @Prairiegirl_reading I was all about the fun reads this year! 4y

“There is no train ride in the world prettier than the one from New York‘s Penn Station to Albany.” #FirstLineFridays

Taken this route many times, and the view of the Hudson is pretty. Prettiest in the world? I doubt it.

I ordered these two lovelies from The Bookshelf in Thomasville Georgia because I so enjoy the From the Front Porch podcast during my audio walks. #thebookshelf #indiebookstores #podcasts

I think if you can let yourself get past the first Semester of this book, you‘ll find it super satisfying. As someone who was in a super tiny creative writing class in university, one with no real drama like this though, I found the discussion of words to be very compelling.

Godpants And of course Simone is the villain, and deserves everything that came to her! 5y

I don‘t know if I‘m going to have enough time to read this before my hold expires, but a fancy school thriller? Yes please!

This book won‘t be for everyone, but if you want to understand about going through a low-res MFA in creative writing looks like with some plot you will love this.

Fiction is meant to capture the reality of what it means to be a human being, which as we know entails all kinds of contradictions and complications. There are no true villains or heroes....readers want the gray area and all the uncomfortable questions that live there 📝📚

I just started this today and am really liking it so far! Its slow pacing and beautiful prose is very calming. Also it's giving off major Secret History vibes which has me excited! 📚💕😍 #catsoflitsy #littenkitten #roxas

Belletrist February Pick

I liked it, but I wasn't in love with the story. The story is very unique; I don't think there is a novel out there where it is told from the perspective of a writing residency. Maybe I'm weird in a way, but I felt it dragged a little in places and went on longer than what it should have. The characters all seemed relatable in a way to people I have met before. I think I wanna check out more of the author's work.

You all. This is so slow. It's interesting. It is taking forever to get anywhere. Lots of details that i am not sure have anything to do with anything. A group of MFA students narrate an incident and repercussions of the incident at a college. I am pushing through looking for the reward. 🧘‍♀️

fleeting Ohhhh man I have been waiting for this! Pls don't let this be another disappointment! :( 5y
Jenken1998 @fleeting its hard to explain.. wonderful descriptive writing... just sloooooowwwww. Im now skimming 🤔 i still will probably say 3 or 3. 5 stars 5y
