After some careful library due date juggling I‘m hoping to blast though this little guy.
Got a skip the line copy of this! Hope it‘s a good one.
It‘s been a few years since I read this, and it‘s the first time I‘ve done it as an audiobook. I think I enjoy physically reading it better, but I don‘t have time to do that with my unending TBR pile.
This one scratched so many itches for me and felt like the perfect mix of magic and reality. I know the style didn‘t work for everyone, but I think it definitely falls into the same camp as Black Chalk, or Secret History, or Special Topics in Calamity Physics... which you either dig or you don‘t.
Back on my bullshit. It‘s been a few years so I‘m excited so slowly make my way through a favourite series.
October Roundup part two: Mostly horror in this pile, with the tagged being such a surprise that I‘ve named it the best out of this bunch. Rules for Vanishing was such a quick fun one too. Read a lot this month so I‘m closer to my goodreads goal. #scarathlon #teamStoker 1 point
October Roundup part one: I tried to read more horror this month (and have a bunch to read next month too.) Overall, I really liked most of what I read. Tagged my favourite from this group. Was most disappointed in the Tremblay story collection as he‘s usually a hit for me. #scarathlon #teamStoker 1 point.
It‘s so interesting going back to some of the early Will Trent books to see how all the characters meet. Really enjoyed the early angry partnership between him and Faith. #scarathlon #teamStoker 6 points.
I kept going back and forth with whether I would read this one or not. My TBR pile is bonkers and I have some other books out that have bigger hold lists... but at the same time I‘ve been looking for a good horror all month and some of the best I‘ve read in the last few years have been YA. #scarathlon #teamStoker 1 point
I wanted to love this. I think the first half is actually brilliant. What makes Chbosky such a good story teller is how great he is at building characters, but the reveal for me was... kinda disappointing. More specifics in a nested spoiler comment. #scarathlon #teamStoker 11 points
Honestly, this didn‘t work for me. The only story I liked is the one about dog walking, and that one‘s even a little on the precious/pretentious side. I only paid a little attention to the inspiration for each story wrap up at the end because I was happy I was done with it! That‘s the problem with short story collections! I stick with them all the way! #scarathlon #teamStoker 11 points.
This started out so strongly for me, but overall I don‘t think it worked. I don‘t know who this book is for: moms? Maybe, but it seems too painful for moms, and like not enough substance for anyone else. #scarathlon #teamStoker 2 points.
