YA fantasy seems to be my guilty reading pleasure. Not that I feel that guilty about it.
All the usual tropes - orphan who doesn‘t know she has power; dark love interest; choice between power and saving the world or domesticity.
Bought this for Polly a while ago thinking we could then watch the series but don‘t think she ever started it. I am now kind of hooked - moved straight on to the second.
I got into this series through one of my good friends. I made the mistake of watching the show before reading the book though… the trilogy was good but this first book was my favourite. It‘s set in a fictional world of power and danger. It doesn‘t really have a lot of romance but it did keep me on the edge of my seat. It‘s different when it comes from powers and magic and that‘s what I really like about this book!
I watched the Netflix series of this before I read the book. The book I found was too focused on Aline, the series let us see Mal more. It is a good read for young adults. It is also my pick for #NSR221 @Nessavamusic in the Young Adult Fantasy
Picked this one up because I was enjoying the Netflix series and was happily drawn in on page as well. A much pined-after best friend, newfound powers, a dangerous quest - all accounted for. Plus there is a map. I love a book with a map!
I enjoyed this and have grabbed the next two from the library to devour immediately.
Starting this one tonight!

Book 116/2021. Finished 17/5/21 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I confess I watched the Netflix TV show first ( I had previously read the Six of Crows Duology though)
Fantastic grishaverse quiz from @rachelsbrittain

Finished my Shadow and Bone trilogy reread. We'll take a slight detour into some non-Grishaverse books before tackling the Six of Crows duology and King of Scars. I did attempt to collect my thoughts on the reread but there is so much going on I probably could have babbled on every topic for a whole video https://youtu.be/A4hshnm0nRI
4.5⭐ I haven't been pulled into a YA series this quickly and thoroughly in a long time. It has some common tropes, especially in the relationship department, but they are done well and don't bog down the pacing of the story. I am very fascinated by the dark, warring realm that is the setting, and I hope to find out even more about it in the next book. ⬇
