A lovely book, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, and a lovely breakfast, PB and strawberry waffles, is a great way to start the day.

For all my GF friends, the King Arthur Gluten Free All-Purpose Baking Mix makes excellent waffles. Even my family that can eat gluten loved them. This is my first time having waffles in years, since cutting out gluten, so I'm excited to say the least.

4.75⭐ This book was like a warm hug -- a perfect palate cleanser after reading more serious works. It is heartwarming and sweet, and there is great chemistry between the characters. While the magical world isn't delved into in-depth, it is diverse and interesting enough to add a good backdrop to the adventure and romance in the book.

3.25⭐ This was an enjoyable book to listen to while completing chores and crafting. The characters were likeable enough to cheer for them, and the premise of falling in love through the editing process was clever--though, as an editor, I know I'm biased. It probably isn't for everyone, but it was a fun listen.

This was my #BookSpin #BookSpinBingo choice for February.
@TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks I enjoyed this one but definitely wanted more of the notes between the two of them. I also felt like the ending where not only no one gets laid off, but everyone just gets to choose whichever department they like best!!! felt a little unrealistic haha 3mo

4.75⭐ Any book that can grab my attention and keep me reading or thinking about it all day is a winner in my book, and this story did just that. It has a levity and hilarity that was much needed but a thought-provoking absurdity that kept me thinking and philosophizing. This book has made me a Scalzi fan and now I want to see out more.

4.25⭐ I actually enjoyed this book better than the first. I found the chemistry between the MCs more compelling, and the enemies-to-lovers trope is a fun one, especially when combined with the opposites attract trope. I did find the reasons for the animosity to be a bit thin and nonsensical, but the fun story and bit of mystery more than made up for it.

4⭐ Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It had the typical sudden romance that doesn't make complete sense, like so many romances, but the characters were likeable and had great chemistry, and the story itself was quite fun. The magical mishap plotline was an enjoyable deviation from romance novel norms.

4.25⭐ This story about a depressed town monster is quite funny. It has a snarky, quirky, and a bit absurd comedy, and the illustrations are a delight. It was a bit predictable, but the amount of enjoyment I had while reading it made up for this.

3.25⭐ The plot of this book was fun and nerdy enough to complete, but it wasn't something I'd necessarily recommend or read again. It was enjoyable while doing chores, and the characters were likeable, so I rooted for their happy ending. Some things felt forced, especially the ending, which seemed to be going for tidy, rather than believable.

2.5⭐This is unfortunately a book that I wanted to like more than I actually liked it. The premise was cool but poorly executed. I wanted to know more about the Death Oracle powers and the rich fey world that is hinted at, but instead I got bland, barely there descriptions. It was entertaining enough to complete on audio while doing chores, but just a couple weeks later, I don't remember how it ended because it didn't resonate with me.

4 ⭐ This is barely a 4 stars for me, but the last half of the book edged it to four stars for me. I Becky Chambers Wayfarers series, but this is the weakest to me so far. I just had a hard time getting into the book at the beginning, and I think it would have been even harder for me if I wasn't listening to it on audio. 👇

Nelnjali I think some of this was the disjointed POVs. Chambers commonly uses mixed POV, but it wasn't initially clear how the characters were tied together. Also, the theme of the book is relatively morose, and I just didn't care about the characters as much as in her other books, at least not initially. That said, it did grab me toward the last half and gave me plenty to think about, like many of Chambers' books. 6mo

4.75 ⭐ I absolutely adored this book and hope to have more in this style from King one day. Those who are fans of The Dark Tower books will find plenty of nods, and those who like to create theories (conspiracies?) of the interconnectedness of King's works will find plenty to play with here. Those who are new to King will find a delightful and at times, horrifying fantasy novel full of magic, dark creatures, and heart.

I'm trying to start thinking about my #WinterGames plans because the wait times on books can be so long on Libby. I thought I could go ahead and put myself on some hold lists. I'd love some recommendations for wintery/Christmasy romance novels. I read In a Holidaze and The Twelve Dates of Christmas last year and really enjoyed both of them. I have put Written in the Stars on hold. Any other suggestions?

Nelnjali I tend to prefer the more humorous Christmas rom-coms, rather than super saccharine romances. LGBTQ+ rep would be a huge plus as well! And I don't mind some cheesiness. The Netflix Christmas movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. 7mo

2.75⭐ While there is much to be admired in this book, it was just okay for me. I loved how it utilized Navajo myths and culture, and the adventure itself had a fun, traditional-folktale-in-modern-times feel. However, it just didn't quite hit home for me. I enjoyed it enough to find out how it ended but not enough to be invested in the story. I think this primarily comes from the internal monologue of the MC and some of the dialogue.👇

Nelnjali I enjoy snarky humor, but the "ha-ha, I'm a quirky preteen that is totally concerned about these monsters trying to destroy the world, but also, aren't little brothers annoying?" attitude just didn't mesh. I think middle school children are quite capable of understanding big emotions, and at times, this book seemed to have things forced in to be more "relatable" but it actually seemed out of place and maybe even a little insulting to preteens. ? 7mo
Nelnjali I can definitely see why this story is loved and that kids might love it, but I think it had so much more potential that didn't get fully realized. That said, I am curious to read her writing for adults because the mythology and fantasy elements were quite fascinating. 7mo

5⭐ I recently listened to Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, and it was an absolute delight. I'll be honest and say that I'm not sure if I would have loved it this much if I hadn't been listening to it, though I still would have enjoyed it a lot. But Gaiman is a master oral storyteller. His voice was made for narration, and there is a playfulness that comes through when he is telling these myths that kept me hanging on his every word.
