Code to Zero
Code to Zero | Ken Follett
12 posts | 27 read | 8 to read
January, 1958--the darkest hour of the cold war and the early dawn of the space race. On the launch pad at Cape Canaveral sits America's best hope to catch up with the Russians--the Explorer I satellite. But at the last moment, the launch is delayed due to weather, even though everyone can see it is a perfectly sunny day. The realreason for the delay rests deep in the mind of NASA scientist who has awoken that morning to find his memory completely erased. Knowing only that he's being followed and watched at every turn, he must find the clues to his own identity before he can discover who is responsible. But even more terrible is the dark secret that they wanted him to forget. Asecret that can destroy the Explorer I--and America's future... A man finds himself lying on the ground, his mind stripped bare of recollection. The year is 1958, and America is in a desperate attempt to match the Soviet Sputnik and regain the lead in the space race. He uncovers long-kept secrets about his wife, his best friend and the woman he once loved. Follett's writing allows you to delve into the story. His characters seem believable. Plot is fast-paced. Recommended to those who love riveting suspense.

Freespirit I love his books. I haven‘t read this. I will add it to my list. Thank you😊 5y
EadieB @Freespirit Good idea! 5y
Crazeedi I've read most ofhis books, but havent heard of this one either 5y

When are you wanting to start Code to Zero? @EadieB @Tove_Reads

EadieB We decided to do it this week but i won‘t be starting until Thursday or Friday after I catch up with The Armada Boy. @andrew65 @Tove_Reads (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Okay, Thanks. That fits nicely for me. Aiming to drive to Scotland on Friday night, all being well, so can Read a large part of this as an audiobook during the 6 - 7 hour drive. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Nice! Have a great holiday! You must be excited! The airport in Philadelphia just started direct flights to Edinburgh on April 2. 5y

Andrew65 @EadieB Will get excited as get closer, still a lot to achieve this week. Been a very long term due to the later Easter and been very intense. And of course started with a throat and chest infection over the weekend. Not surprised as I‘d done 12 straight days in school including leaving at 11 pm on Saturday the previous weekend and 10pm on the Sunday. NEED a rest! 😧😴😵🤒 (edited) 5y
Andrew65 Good news about the flights! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 You certainly do need a rest with those hours. Were you finally able to hire your new employee? (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 The direct flights will be great! I hate to change planes! Gives them an opportunity to lose your luggage! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes got a new Deputy who starts in September, and been head of school in another school so got great experience to support! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 That‘s great news! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Should help improve things. 5y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 I‘m ready to start anytime. Just let me know! @EadieB 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Ok will do! 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads @Andrew65 Finally finish The Armada Boy. I found the last section to be the best as the final reveal was very interesting. I will be starting tomorrow reading 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB I‘m with you! Just finished both Simon Beckett and Peter Robinson, so can now move on to Ken Follett. I sound like a book slut! 🤣 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Very Funny! 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB @Andrew65 Could we finish it by Sunday? 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Fine by me. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Yes I can finish by Sunday! @Andrew65 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB @Andrew65 This man can write! He hooks me on the first pages. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I‘m liking this book too! I‘m reading book along with audio. Went to bed with the audio and fell asleep. Now I have to figure out where I fell asleep as the audio book finished. I slept like a baby very sound. It was a great! @Andrew65 (edited) 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB You adapt too well to the book trying to figure out where you were 🤣 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Found the spot and I‘m at 7 am and have 100 more pages to read. @andrew65 5y
Andrew65 I have finished but manly due to being ill all week (started Saturday afternoon). Had to give into it at the end of the week as has progressively got worse and ended up listening to this, between work emails, work phone calls, tasks and sleep. @EadieB @Tove_Reads (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Hope you are feeling better soon! 5y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 Are you ready to read House of Shadows? I am! And then Heresy after that? I am in desperate need of a historical fiction fix! @EadieB (edited) 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I can do House of Shadows. I‘m babysitting today but can start on Sunday. @Andrew65 (edited) 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Can you think of a book that would take about 9-10 hours to read? Thinking about a book to read at the airport and during flights. I also want to read about 100 pages before my trip to see if it‘s worth carrying it with me. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads if I suggest something you may not have the book. Take one that you have wanted to read for a long time but never got to. Where are you going? 5y
Tove_Reads @EadieB I have a Michener of 1300 pages, but could look for something else at the library. Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Croatia is so beautiful. I‘ve been there a couple times as I found my family. My grandparents came from a little village near Zadar. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Thanks Eadie, thought I was starting to get better but definitely dipped again! Some pernicious bug this is! @Tove_Reads I hope to start House of Shadows tomorrow but would struggle to be able to concentrate on it today! (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 You just need to rest! You have been working horrible hours for the past few weeks! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes, trying to get as much rest as possible. 5y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 I was in bed for two weeks. Nasty bug! I‘ll start tomorrow as well. We haven‘t even discussed Code to Zero or Tombland yet. I got big news this week, so haven‘t been able to concentrate on reading. Now I‘m following the election. @EadieB 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Hope it was good news. Hope I don‘t spend two weeks in bed otherwise will be my whole holiday. 😡 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I‘m a bit under the weather myself. My grandchildren are sick too and I‘ve caught whatever they have. Terrible cough and just very tired. @Andrew65 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB You‘ve also been working hard with all that baby sitting. Children are so generous with their bugs! 🙄 5y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 Yes, several good news, for once! Looks like one of my dreams will come through. Fingers crossed! It was a terrible flu, worst in ten years. Happy to get back to my reading tomorrow! @EadieB 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads That‘s good. Good to hear you‘ve got over your bug. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 This week I have to babysit on Tuesday and Wednesday they have to go to parent/teacher conference and my daughter has a hairdresser appointment. Hope we are all better by then. @Tove_Reads You need to give us a hint about your good news! 5y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 @EadieB Writing an EU resolution for world leaders regarding illegal wildlife trade, and hopefully I‘ll be a PhD student soon (same subject), but impossible to know yet if I‘ll get accepted. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads That is great news! @Andrew65 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads That‘s great 🙌🙌👏👏👏😍 @EadieB (edited) 5y

Cathythoughts Nice looking book 👍🏻💜 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB You really don‘t want to know! 🥺 Work schedule meant I only read 4 books in the second half of March and one book in the last week. Just finished Where Serpents Sleep, and only 58% through Firefly Summer. Can‘t even start the next Adrian McKinty until I finish Firefly Summer. Need to get hold of this one. Will hope to start next Monday but can‘t promise. Will catch up as on holiday from 13th April for 2 weeks . @Tove_Reads 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Still not read book 2 in the Mo Hayder Series! 😫 @Tove_Reads (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 You‘ll have to catch up during your holiday break. I‘m sure you will! (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB I will, one more major deadline to get through on Thursday morning. Already met five major deadlines in the past five weeks, including one today. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Sounds tedious! 5y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 Don‘t you just hate it when unimportant things like work messes up important things like your reading schedule??? 5y
