The Good Life
The Good Life | Jay McInerney
6 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
Ten years on from Brightness Falls, Russell Calloway is still a literary editor although in a diminished capacity; his wife, Corrine, has sacrificed her career to watch anxiously over their children. Across town Luke McGavock, a wealthy ex-investment banker, is taking a sabbatical from making money, struggling to reconnect with his socially resplendent wife, Sasha, and their angst-ridden teenage daughter, Ashley. These two Manhattan families are teetering on the brink of change when 9/11 happens. The Good Life explores through the lens of catastrophe that territory between hope and despair, love and loss, regret and fulfilment. But ultimately this is Jay McInerney doing what he does best, presenting us with the life of New York City in all its moral complexity.

Pickpick

In the wake of 9/11 Luke and Corinne meet. While the city mourns they fall in love, working in a Soup Kitchen near Ground Zero. They feel guilty about their feelings in the light of what happened and towards their spouses and kids.
It‘s a complicated love story amidst worlds falling apart. #Booked2021 #RelatedTo911

#WeeklyForecast 36/21

This week I am planning to finish the Summer prompts for #Booked2021 with tagged book and add a Fall one with Pygmalion. De Betoverde Berg (Ancestral Voices in English) is a #1001books.

I gave it my best shot. I just do not like this! It seems to be rambling and long winded. Eh. Next.

Rarely do you hear the 9/11 survivor stories... Just stopped in my tracks to ponder this, and how many untold stories are out there. Frightening.

Starting this today and the very first page is reminding me of my favorite musician. "Echo park, Indian summer..."

KrisConstantReader I just bought this book recently. 8y

This is another ebook deal for today. I'm thinking of getting it. There seems to be mixed reviews on Goodreads. Have any of you read it?

LauraBeth I read it but it was ten years ago 😀 It's good but not stellar. I'd say get it if it's only 1.99 9y
KrisConstantReader @LauraBeth thanks! I think I will, can't beat that deal. 9y
