Good Life | Jay McInerney
6 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
In "The Good "Life, Jay McInerney unveils a story of love, family, conflicting desires, and catastrophic loss in his most powerfully searing work thus far.Clinging to a semiprecarious existence in TriBeCa, Corrine and Russell Calloway have survived a separation and are wonderstruck by young twins whose provenance is nothing less than miraculous. Several miles uptown and perched near the top of the Upper East Side's social register, Luke McGavock has postponed his accumulation of wealth in an attempt to recover the sense of purpose now lacking in a life that often gives him pause. But on a September morning, brightness falls horribly from the sky, and people worlds apart suddenly find themselves working side by side at the devastated site.Wise, surprising, and, ultimately, heart-stoppingly redemptive, "The Good Life" captures lives that allow us to see-through personal, social, and moral complexity-more clearly into the heart of things.

Pickpick

In the wake of 9/11 Luke and Corinne meet. While the city mourns they fall in love, working in a Soup Kitchen near Ground Zero. They feel guilty about their feelings in the light of what happened and towards their spouses and kids.
It‘s a complicated love story amidst worlds falling apart. #Booked2021 #RelatedTo911

I gave it my best shot. I just do not like this! It seems to be rambling and long winded. Eh. Next.

Rarely do you hear the 9/11 survivor stories... Just stopped in my tracks to ponder this, and how many untold stories are out there. Frightening.

Starting this today and the very first page is reminding me of my favorite musician. "Echo park, Indian summer..."

KrisConstantReader I just bought this book recently. 8y

This is another ebook deal for today. I'm thinking of getting it. There seems to be mixed reviews on Goodreads. Have any of you read it?

LauraBeth I read it but it was ten years ago 😀 It's good but not stellar. I'd say get it if it's only 1.99 9y
KrisConstantReader @LauraBeth thanks! I think I will, can't beat that deal. 9y
