I'm usually annoyed when a book is different from my expectations. I picked this up after reading Stephen Graham Jones' "Night Cyclist" imagining it would be similar: a long short story (Tor calls them novelettes) with a horror element. Set in a London asylum, a feline named Jeoffry is busy chasing away creatures from the human inhabitants when the devil attempts to make him a deal. Should appeal to fans of Gaiman. Although more whimsical than I?

vivastory expected, this was a pleasant surprise! This is Siobhan Carroll's first Tor publication & I wouldn't be surprised if she breaks out the way Martha Wells & Sarah Gailey did. 6y

QuintusMarcus Magnificent! I‘m so glad you know the work! How did you come to know Christopher Smart? My introduction was through the music of Benjamin Britten — I assume that‘s the case for most. I just love Smart, I wish he was better known. Incidentally, Lucy Ellmann references him a couple times in Ducks, Newburyport. 6y
