This is my first time reading Ken Bruen and I have watch Jack Taylor tv show and enjoyed it alot. I loved this first book in the series The Guards and it gave a great background to Jack as a character. The only down fall I found was the murder took a back set and we got more information about Jack struggle with alcoholics, which in itself was an interesting read.

Two blue book cover designs but very very different. Enjoyed both! Going back to the start with Jack Taylor after reading Galway Silence (@netgalley) and a review copy of Monica courtesy @betterreadingau.

Alright here's my #profilepic @Chelleo !!

My husband and I were able to get away for a night and we stopped at Mainly Murders Bookstore in Kennebunk, ME because my husband really knows what makes me happy. It's a tiny little shop with sweet owners and you can only find thrillers, mysteries and horror! 💀🖤📚 #litsyavatar

Oh and my handle? Well it's simply because of the massive piles of laundry that I can never keep up with! 😄😉

mrozzz That‘s awesome! 7y

laundry_piles @minkyb yes I strongly recommend! It's tiny but we made some friends and chatted with the owner for quite awhile. We were probably there for a few hours. Worth it. 7y

Chelleo Your handle is the story of my life 🤦🏾‍♀️ adding this shop to my future Reading Tour (which is mainly in my head) 7y

This 'mystery' reads more like a slice of life story. A slow moving story about an unrepentant alcoholic who has difficulty connecting to those around him. It has an interesting twist at the end. A deeply flawed character, but not really a book for mystery lovers.

Ooh, I liked this a lot. The prose is sparse, to say the least, but it packs a punch. I seem to be a sucker for tortured alcoholic cops and ex-cops. I'm thrilled to have found an engrossing series for the summer. There are like 12 of these!

My Irish main character has seen "Paris, Texas," but I, a resident of Paris, Texas, have not....

Sydsavvy Nor have I. Nor will I. I hope. Lol. 9y
