This audiobook allowed me to fangirl about Mr. Rogers last week. I‘ve read a bio of him by Maxwell King, so I knew most of the first half of the book. The 2nd half goes through 10 ways to live like Mr. Rogers. Most of those were good, I found one involving info about Andy Warhol & George Romero unnecessary. Maybe a little too fawning about Mr. Rogers but still a good book for those that don‘t want as in-depth as King‘s bio. #doublespin

This was okay. Endearing look at Mr. Rogers, who truly seemed like a lovely man, but maybe a little too fawning. There was no conflict or struggle—I found it pleasant but not compelling. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A sweet book about an incredibly inspirational man. I enjoyed hearing about how “the Neighborhood” arose and the glimpses of Fred Rogers‘s humor behind the camera. I didn‘t care for Mister Roger‘s Neighborhood as a child (Sesame Street was my jam), but find myself seeking to be more like him as an adult and parent of young children. We may not share a belief system, but there is a lot to learn from Rogers about just being a good human. 3.5⭐️

5✨ We start with a history of Fred Roger‘s. Then it gives 10 tips to live and love like Mr Roger‘s. As a neighbor this story warmed my heart just as I felt when I was watching the show. I just finished The Green Mile last night, which I enjoyed much more than I thought I would. I‘m ready to let go of the intensity of death row and serial killers, and move onto something much happier, about a man who “likes me just the way I am.” #MrRogers #Wontyoubemyneighbor?#Letsmakethemostofthisbeautifulday

I‘ve read many books about Mister Rogers this year. It‘s difficult to review each one separately; my reading of one informs the other. While this text isn‘t as exhaustive as the Max King bio, I found it more readable. Edwards effectively conveys the mission of Fred Rogers‘s work & life: “He fervently hoped that it...helped give meaning to the lives of the children watching — or more precisely, that it gave them the capacity to find that meaning.”

OMG. This book implies that Mister Rogers & Captain Kangaroo once planned to open a school for Children‘s Educators/Entertainers. It‘s now one of my life‘s greatest regrets that it never happened.

I want to put graduation from “The Rogers-Kangaroo Institute” on my resume in the same way that I once wanted to attend Divinity School so I could say I was “studying to become a divinity.” The Rogers-Kangaroo Institute?! It sounds so lovely & absurd!

“We were very devoted, because we realized we were not in anything we could quit, somehow. We had stumbled into somebody‘s mission for children,” Betty Aberlin said. “If you‘re the color yellow in Van Gogh‘s paintings, you can‘t quit.”

I‘m going on a real vacation for the first time in what feels like an eternity. My mom‘s advice was to pack “only the essentials and we can borrow/buy whatever else we need”. Well, looks like I‘m done packing! 🥰✈️🏝

An absolutely fantastic read! The first half of the book is, more or less, about the life and career Fred Rogers, while the other half of the book consists of powerful life lessons we could all learn from the incredibly kind man Rogers was. I absolutely adored this book!
