11 posts | 7 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
This box set includes Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen's national bestseller My Grandfather's Blessings: Stories of Strength, Refuge, and Belonging, and the 10th anniversary edition of the New York Times bestseller Kitchen Table Wisdom: Stories that Heal, which includes new material from the author. In My Grandfather's Blessings, which Dr. Dean Ornish calls one of the most extraordinarily moving books I have ever read, cancer physician and master storyteller Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen uses her luminous stories to remind us of the power of our kindness and the joy of being alive. Through the teachings of her grandfather, an Orthodox rabbi and scholar of the Kabbalah, Dr. Remen explains how we can discover our wholeness through service to othersand the way to restore hidden wholeness in the world. Kitchen Table Wisdom is a remarkable collection of true stories that draws on the human tradition of shared experienceshowing us life in all its power and mystery and reminding us that the things we cannot measure may be the things that ultimately sustain and enrich our lives. With new material, this special 10th anniversary edition addresses the same spiritual issues that made the original a bestseller: suffering, meaning, love, faith, and miracles. Rachel Naomi Remen is nature's gift to us, a genius of that elusive and crucial capacity, the human heart. She has much to teach us about healing, living, and loving. "Despite the awesome powers of technology, many of us still do not live very well," says Dr. Rachel Remen. "We may need to listen to one another's stories again." Dr. Remen, whose unique perspective on healing comes from her background as a physician, a professor of medicine, a therapist, and a long-term survivor of chronic illness, invites us to listen from the soul. #Healing #IndelibleMoments

Much needed encouraging words on a Wednesday morning inside the hospital at work. One of my dear colleagues gave me this volume a few weeks ago and I‘d yet to pick it up...

This is a book that my husband gave me many years ago when I was facing a very challenging time in my life. I was inspired by @Eggs to reread this amazing collection of essays by Dr. Remen. She offers insights about the importance of generosity, kindness of spirit, and self acceptance. The essays are short but powerful. An excellent read. #NFNov #TIL Self care is always important - be as kind to yourself as you are to others.

This was a challenge! :)

Kitchen Table Wisdom is one of my all-time favorite books, and it's one of my go-to resources when I'm dealing with a challenge. She writes with such compassion and the short little anecdotes are so interesting and heart-warming. It's quite a warm fuzzy book, I love it. 🤗♥️

Eggs I‘ve 2 of her books 💞 Welcome to Litsy 🤗👏🏻 6y

In between laundry (yuck) and a movie (yay) and a migraine (blech), I've now organized my go-to shelf for challenge books. All but one of these (X) fall into the #LitsyReadingChallenge. Some additional selections are Kindle-based. As soon as I finish two more books for 2016 #ReadHarder, I can start choosing from these shelves!

Zelma Very organized! 👍 8y

A collection of true stories that touch on the faith, hope, love, and mystery that sustain and enrich our lives.

In my experience, a diagnosis is an opinion and not a prediction. What would it be like if more people allowed for the presence of the unknown, and accepted the words of their medical experts in the same way? The diagnosis is cancer. What that will mean remains to be seen.
