As a heart-shaped foods enthusiast myself, this made me smile. š’š¨´š€ I really enjoy Helen Rosnerā€s writing in general. She has a piece in the tagged, which I own but sadly have not yet read.

The last couple of days have been hard for me and concentrating on reading has been almost impossible. Last night I watched City of Gold and thought it was fabulous! In keeping in the spirit of that, somewhat, I‘m diving into The Best Food Writing of 2018. I so enjoyed the 2019 collection, I expect this one will be just as fun and eye opening! (And there is a Jonathan Gold piece in this collection.)

I love food writing, but this was not what I expected. It seemed to be political at times, and at other times wonderful. But more meh than great. My favorite story is probably the Hot Goober Peas followed by the Bean Freaks. I give āļø¸āļø¸āļø¸š»

(I searched books for ā€2019ā€¯ and found this one, which I actually bought a couple of weeks ago, so it seemed an appropriate tag š)
I hit my reading goal! I haven‘t kept up with the 75ers group for a while, but maybe I‘ll do better moving forward. Litsy-related: almost all of the books I missed were rereads. I don‘t want to remove a review to mark a book as a current read, but if I don‘t, it doesn‘t get stacked chronologically.

I enjoyed this very much. There is a wide array of topics: sugar‘s horrible history, to a couple of known and unknown foodie rockstars, to billionaire farmers and the impact they have, to Kit Kat‘s in Japan and how popular they are, to what it means to a girl who grew up in the system and what it means now that accessibility to food is under attack, to Utah what the demonumentization of lands might mean for them, and the equally great and š‘‡š¸¼

Reggie horrible ( there is a story about eggs I could have done without in here. I know why it‘s in here but still.) memories food can conjure. This book was great. 5y

Reggie @charl08 it‘s a real neat essay, it‘s called ā€Big in Japan,‘ and it‘s all about the different kinds of Kit Kat‘s there are and how there are chefs who come up with very interesting flavors and how they all become collectibles. It was very interesting and made me hungry for a Kit Kat!!! 5y
