Madeline's Rescue (Turtleback School & Library)
Madeline's Rescue (Turtleback School & Library) | Ludwig Bemelmans
12 posts | 27 read | 1 to read
Madeline's fun-loving spirit and bold personality get her into the greatest adventures. In these five books she turns a trip to the hospital into a grand adventure, tumbles into the river Seine only to be rescued by a fearless dog, runs off to join the circus -- and that's just the beginning! Thanks to humorous, lyrical text, breathtaking artwork, and a spunky redhead named Madeline, these books have timeless appeal and perennial popularity.

This is a very long book, but there are not many words on each page. Although the sentences aren't very long, I would recommend this for older elementary grades. There are tricky words throughout the book which is why I wouldn't recommend it for very young readers.

Review-Madeline's Rescue by Ludwig Bemelmans,1953. Madeline, is a brave little girl in Paris who is rescued by a dog named Genevieve. Bemelmans uses a combination of simple yet vibrant watercolors to convey the excitement of the story.
Blurb-I would connect this book to a lesson encouraging students to share stories of times when they have helped or been helped by others.

This RF book is a wonderful resource for a story telling. This story is about 12 little girls who do everything in sync until she wakes up crying and in need of help. This story will be great for story telling. https://www.readingrockets.org/literacyapps/multimedia-composition

Emiranda UDL 5.2 would be used int he story telling as there are other props used when telling a story. EL 17 is being shown in the story telling so they students have audio and visual as they are hearing the story. 4y

Madeline‘s Rescue is a RF Caldecott award winning book that has been loved through out the years. Madeline is a young French girl who goes on a trip with Miss Clavel and 11 other young girls. She slips and falls into water, only to be saved by a brave dog Genevieve. One day, inspectors say Genevieve must go, and Miss Clavel and the girls go out to find her. They fight over Genevieve, but in the end, there‘s enough love for all of them!

MaddyJ This book would be great for IR, and students could independently read all of the Madeline books. https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/madelines-rescue - Some great word searches are found on here for when students finish reading the book. Using this plus IR, UDL principle 7.1 (Optimize individual choice and autonomy) and EL 29 (Offer a variety of reference materials at the students‘ instructional level for independent use) are covered. 5y
DrSpalding Reconsider your genre. Knowing these books took place well in the past, what genre do you think they are now? Independent reading and a wonderful addition to your classroom library… Yes! 5y

"Madeline's Rescue" Written/Illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans. Madeline books are classics that I would read all the time when I was younger. This particular book is one of my favorites. Just a normal day in Paris. Miss Clavel and her 12 girls went out for their daily stroll. However, on this particular day mischief would ensue with the smallest girl Madeline. The strategies that you could use for this book are LC, IR, PR to name a few.

Dbenford This book has also won the Caldecott award for its amazing drawing. The link that I found was https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/madelines-resc.... The UDL and ELL strategy I chose was 4.1 (Vary the methods for response and navigation) and 7 (Show students how to use graphic organizers like semantic mapping and imaging). #UCFLAE3414F17 (edited) 7y

Madeline‘s Rescue, the second in the series, is a P picture book that is written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans. Unlike the first book, this one received the Caldecott Medal for its illustrations. Since this text has the potential to generate self-to-text connections with students, it can be applied as a RT.

kkidwell Students can become engaged with the story of finding a lost dog and amplify the emotions of the story through retelling it. Retelling the story can also aid their comprehension of Madeline‘s adventure. #UCFLAE3414F17 7y

This link is a resource for using the text as RT. It has ideas on how to create puppets for reenactment and notes for educators on how to observe the students as they complete the activity.

Madeline‘s Rescue is the second book in Ludwig Bemelmans‘ series of the little girl named Madeline! This book is the winner of the 1954 Caldecott Medal, and after I️ read I️t I️ could see why. This series is all about Madeline, the girls, and Miss Clavels‘s frantic search for their beloved dog, Genevieve. Will they find their dog? You have to read to find out!! #UCFLAE3414F17

Sabrinac After reading this book, students will be asked to create their own stick puppets of the characters in this book! They will then be asked to create their own mini adventure for the puppets to go on. The lesson can be found on this link, https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/madelines-resc.... 7y
Sabrinac The ESOL strategy I️ will use for this book will be, number 32, Use student pairs for team learning, especially for reports, experiments and projects. I️ will has my students create their puppets and mini stories with partners and they will present together. 7y
Sabrinac The UDL strategy I️ will use will be, number 8.3, Foster collaboration and community. I️ will use this one because, I️ will be having my students work together on this activity. 7y
