In the small town of Winsome, Illinois, two people discover the confusing, complex, and beautiful nature of friendship. After her Silicon Valley start-up shuts down, Alyssa Harrison returns to Winsome, Illinois, to regroup and then move on. Yet as friends and family welcome her back, she begins to envision a future in this small Midwestern community. When another setback lands Alyssa back at home with her estranged mother, Janet, Alyssa is forced to confront her past, the lens through which she remembers it, and the people she has hurt along the way. Certain of a cool welcome in Winsome, newcomer Curtis Miller buys the towns coffee shop to be near his daughter. Though he keeps his focus on his daughter and his work, he finds himself drawn to Alyssa Harrison. When he asks for her help in making his shop more appealing to the community, he wonders if something is growing between themuntil Alyssa betrays him. Now caught in a legal battle for his daughter and another battle for his shop and reputation, Curtis doesnt know whom to trust. Loyalty and faith are tested as Alyssa and Curtis learn how to truly show up for one another and discover that sometimes we all need a second chance and a whole lot of grace.

I‘m going to attempt to work through some of the audiobooks I have stashed on libro.fm through it‘s wonderful Librarian ALC program. First up is this, which I did not realize was the second book in the series. However, at least at this point, I don‘t think reading the first book is necessary. #NationalAudiobookMonth

It took me a long time to get into this book. As in I started in 3 separate times reading other books between. I wanted to love it, I just didn't. Chapter 23 was my favorite simply because I found myself agreeing with part of the story but otherwise it was just blah to me. Oh well.

I read The Printed Letter Bookshop two summers ago and am excited to return to the town of Winsome and be introduced to new characters. With everything going on in the world right now it feels good to pick up a book that gives you all of the cozy, wholesome Hallmark movie vibes.

This book about small town life, new changes, new perspectives, forgiveness, family, friendship & home had me going back & forth, unsure if it was a “pick”. I felt it tried to cover too much & too many people; it felt scattered to me. Also, I could not understand the tile until near the end- plenty of lattes, little literature.I did like it‘s theme of home not necessarily a place, but in your heart. Not memorable.a light read.

Librarybelle Love the expression! I see that often in my cats when I‘m not doing the thing they want right at that moment! 😹 4y
kspenmoll @Librarybelle You are so right! Em was not pleased with me. Wanted all the attention. No books!!! 4y

TheAromaofBooks I've struggled with Reay's books - they always sound like books I should really like, but I never do. After trying three of them and feeling meh about all of them, I've decided she just isn't for me! 4y

LeahBergen Someone looks cranky. 😆 4y
kspenmoll @LeahBergen She would much prefer NOT to share my lap with a book!!! 4y
kspenmoll @TheAromaofBooks I almost bailed a few times! My first of her books- not making me want to read others of hers. thanks for your input! 4y
TheAromaofBooks They haven't been bad, exactly, just all of them were kind of a struggle to get through. And like the first one that I read was Dear Mr. Knightley which is 100% a riff of Dear Daddy-Long-Legs (Jean Webster) & I couldn't find a single spot in the entire book where Reay acknowledged that?? I also read The Bronte Plot, which was okay but just... boring haha I've had Lizzy & Jane on my Kindle forever but still haven't gotten around to trying it. 4y

#bookspin #bookspinbingo #booksandwine #booksandpopcorn

Finished my first day of hybrid teaching with students, with all Covid restrictions in place. As wonderful as is was to see students, the day felt weird. Different. Separate-opposite of inclusion, our model.
So quiet time in the porch- evening sounds, occasional car. Peace.
Only read 3 books of my August #bookspin so rolling over to Sept.

Kimberlone Lovely porch! 4y
LiteraryinLawrence Sorry it was a rough day. Things are so different that feeling off is totally to be expected. Enjoy your quiet time! 4y
kspenmoll @LiteraryinLititz Thank you so much for your kind & supportive words! 4y

Thanks to #partner @NetGalley for the digital ARC of Katherine Reay's Of Literature and Lattes in exchange for an honest review. The book is available to read.⠀

Katherine Reay's Of Literature and Lattes is a cozy comfort read. A warmth infuses each page as we inhabit the small community of Winsome, Illinois, floating from character to character.

I would definitely recommend reading the previous The Printed Letter Bookshop before this follow-up, as I had to remember characters from a year ago to keep up. While this one was fine, I didn‘t enjoy it as much as the first. Centered around the small town of Winsome, IL, the main story is about 31 yo Alyssa who returns after 3 years in CA. She‘s lost her job, she‘s broke and needs to start over. She also needs to heal a rift with her mom. ⬇️⬇️

robinb Jeremy moved to open a coffee shop and be nearer his young daughter and has issues to solve with his ex and his business. While I enjoyed seeing how they worked through their problems, I was also a little annoyed by Alyssa‘s selfish and immature attitude at times, and there were several other characters with stories that could be distracting at times. But a good story overall. 3.5/5⭐️ 4y
Crazeedi I enjoyed printed letter bookshop! 4y
robinb @Crazeedi Yes, I did too! 👍😊 4/5⭐️ It might just be me (or the current atmosphere we‘re all living in at the moment), but I didn‘t quite get the same feel-good vibe from this one. Still worth reading though, especially if you‘ve read the first book. I did really like Janet‘s further development (she works in the bookstore and is an artist...also Alyssa‘s mom) in this one! 4y
