Written in Irv Yalom's inimitable story-telling style, Staring at the Sun is a profoundly encouraging approach to the universal issue of mortality. In this magisterial opus, capping a lifetime of work and personal experience, Dr. Yalom helps us recognize that the fear of death is at the heart of much of our anxiety. Such recognition is often catalyzed by an "awakening experience"a dream, or loss (the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job or home), illness, trauma, or aging. Once we confront our own mortality, Dr. Yalom writes, we are inspired to rearrange our priorities, communicate more deeply with those we love, appreciate more keenly the beauty of life, and increase our willingness to take the risks necessary for personal fulfillment.
TrishBSounds like the sort of book that would be helpful to read but I know I wouldn‘t! I never read the birth sections in pregnancy books either.....6y

laurielunaI'm the exact opposite of@TrishB when it comes to things like this. I have a whole section on my shelf dedicated to child birth. Nothing for Death though. Looks interesting! X6y

Cathythoughts@miralunasbooknook yes I remember reading nothing but pregnancy & birth books years ago when I was having my children .... happy days ... I loved pregnancy ♥️6y
laurieluna@Cathythoughts I don't plan on having any more but I find it all fascinating. I did love both of my pregnancies though. I know some people don't have as easy a ride!6y
TrishB@Cinfhen 😘 naturally maternal are not words to describe me! Love my kids to bits and they‘ve turned out ok tho despite that.....6y
CinfhenHa!!! You‘re an awesome mom!!!@TrishB I hated pregnancy too and I don‘t really love the baby stage 🤫🤫I start liking them around 9 months!!!! 🤭6y
BillyparGreat pick: I wish I could have the 'we all gotta go sometime' attitude, but I'm definitely in the dread camp. Doesn't stop my morbid fascination with it though💀😬6y
Cathythoughts@Billypar that‘s part of the idea behind the book ... we could not “ stare “ at death all the time , or life would become impossible ... meanwhile , we are still here 👍🏻♥️6y
