How a Mountain Was Made
How a Mountain Was Made: Stories | Greg Sarris
9 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
"It is said that Coyote was sitting atop Sonoma Mountain when he decided to create the world and people, and many of the songs that Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo people have sung since the beginning of time are gifts from the mountain. The stories go on and on because the mountain itself has so many things--rocks and animals; birds and grasses, fish, frogs, springs and creek, trees--and many of the stories connect with other stories, just as the animals and plants and all other things on Sonoma Mountain connect with one another. In this book of stories from the award-winning author of Grand Avenue, Greg Sarris retells sixteen creation stories from his ancestral homeland."--Provided by publisher.

I read so many good books this year. It was helpful, and fun, to have a way to narrow them down.

Thanks to @Pogue for recommending my #1 book (#lmpbc)!

And thanks to @chasjjlee for the layout!

Happy to vote today. Especially against the person who claimed George Soros was controlling two Jewish Democrats in MN. The same candidate has also been in trouble for anti-immigrant remarks.

monalyisha People are utterly ridiculous. Thank you for voting! Remember to email me, too, if you haven‘t already at: monalitsy@gmail.com. It‘ll help me to keep track. 😊 2y

5/5⭐️s! Thank you, @Pogue for your #lmpbc pick!

I wasn‘t looking forward to this. Folktales and indigenous stories* aren‘t my jam. (*Burned by reading Louise Erdrich.) SURPRISE! This was beautiful, lyrical and very hard to put down. One of the best books I‘ve read this year. ❤️ @Hazel2019 @TheBookHippie @suvata

Hazel2019 Yay! We have some good picks this round 😊 2y

I thought I‘d have to “get through” this book (#lmpbc). It‘s character building to read outside one‘s comfort zone, right?

Page 1: 🤯. This books is hypnotic, beautiful and eye opening. If you told me I‘d love a world where birds have conversations and a coyote invented the world — and it wasn‘t satire — I would have thought, “You are sadly mistaken” and inwardly rolled my eyes.

Thank you @Pogue 🙌
