pickPaul Dini was severely beaten while he was working on Batman and that took its toll and brought up some other ongoing issues. Paul faces these effects through different Batman characters. Brilliant artwork and an awesome, redemptive story.
This graphic novel based on a true incident is absolutely amazing. After the writer is physically and mentally destroyed by a mugging, he is brought down and then brought up by the animated characters he helps create.
pickI recently reviewed this book on the Z-Trigger podcast. Dini writes a painful autobiographical account of his assault and mugging in the early nineties when working on Batman: The Animated series. The art is as varied and beautiful as it difficult to look at. I'll say little else. It's a journey worth taking.
pickVery well done. Obviously it's not a traditional Batman story but I'd recommend it to anyone who was a fan of Batman the Animated Series, Tiny Toons and other 90s WB animation. There's also a surprise (at least to me) cameo for Neil Gaiman fans. But I think anyone who has gone through a difficult time and had their own inner Batman and Joker can find something in it. Check out Dini on the Nerdist Podcast from a while back if you can, too. So good.
