Angel Catbird, Volume 1 | Margaret Atwood
post image
Panpan

Despite her pedigree, Margaret Atwood should probaby stick to prose. This book reads like its author hasn't even seen a comic since the 50s.

Maybe you'll like it if you're nostalgic for the silliness of the silver age. But are you really?

brennahawleycraig See, I liked it, but mostly because it was so strange! 7y
readordierachel I felt the same. I absolutely love Atwood, but this didn't work for me either. 7y
Leniverse Agreed! This was disappointing. 7y
LuLeeBelle Yeaaah, I agree. The art was nice at least? 7y

Authority: A Novel | Jeff VanderMeer

The new boss is in over his head. Either no one knows what Area X is or they just won't tell him. One thing's for sure. If Area X is weird, the organization tasked with studying it is too.

Surely no one on Litsy has ever had a bad workplace experience. Or have you?

Annihilation | Jeff VanderMeer

Right up there with Drew Magary's "The Hike" for weirdest book in recent memory. Not totally convinced but I'm sticking around for the sequels in hopes of finding out what the hell is happening in Area X.

Read anything weird lately?

night_shift I just finished this about a week ago and The Hike yesterday! Both great, but so weird! Annihilation, I've heard the next two clear up some mysterious, but not all of them so I feel reluctant.. 7y
bitterbear I couldn't put the series down... It was slow but the atmosphere of these were incredible. 7y
amywithbooks I finished The Hike about a week ago. Loved every bit of how weird it was. Finished it in a day because I had to know the ending! 7y
Belles Behind Her Eyes 👀 is definitely a little weird. 7y
BillBlume I'm still recovering from reading this book. Damn good, but seriously twisted. 7y

What's the worst experience you've had with a neighbor?

Megabooks I had a neighbor that turned out to be a compulsive liar. 7y

mom2bugnbee Barking dogs. For three loooooooong years, despite multiple conversations & calls to police. We grilled steaks in celebration the day that they moved out. (P.S. I love dogs. These barked for six hours on end. And kept my infant from sleeping. No joke.) 7y

mom2bugnbee BUT the worst story I've heard belongs to my cousin. She & her family had windows break in their house due to a meth lab explosion next door. 😶 7y

monkeygirlsmama I loved Dark, Dark Wood so will have to read this one. 7y
StellarDoc I'm about 80 pages from the end, and it's not gripping me the way In a Dark, Dark Wood did. 7y
TinyReader I rated it so-so but I could probably downgrade that. 7y
DiruVamp I have read them both and they were both great but I much preferred Dark, Dark Wood 7y
MelanieMefford I stopped reading that book because I hated the protagonist so much. I never quit books! Like that's probably the second time in my life. 7y

Mezrich's fill-in-the-gaps prose and insistence on making narcisist, liar and thief Thad Roberts into a heroic figure make this book an excercise in reading between the lines. Great cover though.

If you've read the whole series of Reacher novels and wish you had some more, Lee Child wrote a handful of short stories. Most are available as ebooks. Check with your local library to find out about any ebook services they offer.
