Mitch, Please!
Mitch, Please!: How Mitch McConnell Sold Out Kentucky (and America, Too) | Matt Jones
7 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
From the founder of Kentucky Sports Radio and attorney Matt Jones, a withering, humorous look at how Mitch McConnell has been bad for Kentucky—and why he needs to be voted out in 2020. They say all politics is local. In 2020, Mitch McConnell will have served five full terms as a US Senator. Thirty years. The Senate Majority leader’s power is as undeniable as it is infuriating, and the people of Kentucky have had enough. Led by Matt Jones, they (and they alone) have the power to oust him from office. How did Jones, a local boy turned attorney turned sports radio host come to shine the brightest light on McConnell’s ineptitude? Simple—he knows Kentucky inside and out, and has used the state’s love of sports as an entry point for showcasing how McConnell has failed his fellow citizens both economically and socially for three decades. Entertaining, maddening, yet ultimately inspiring, these stories from Kentuckians in each of its 120 counties illustrate the Senate Majority leader’s stunning shortcomings. Jones infuses his trademark wit and wisdom throughout, while also offering a beautiful portrait of a state with arguably the most untapped potential in our country. Ultimately, the white-hot hatred for McConnell on the coasts is just white noise. Only the people of Kentucky can remove him from office. Here, Matt Jones demonstrates he has the influence, charisma, and institutional knowledge to lead the charge. He and his fellow Kentuckians have had enough—and they’re ready for a fight.

Background in case you don‘t know who Matt Jones is—he‘s a Kentuckian who started Ky Sports Radio, had his own show for awhile, & considered running for McConnell‘s Senate seat. He‘s funny & a very popular sports guy but also used to be a lawyer (which I learned in this book). This is a well-researched book about McConnell and Ky. Matt & a friend travel through all 120 counties of Ky (yes, we have so many, I forget about some of them), talking 👇

Scochrane26 to people and trying to find out why people continue to vote for Mitch since no one actually likes him. It‘s sort of a travelogue/road trip of my state, which is why I decided to finally read it. Along the way, Matt finds a lot of uplifting things about the people of Ky & goes through the process of deciding whether to enter the primary. Learning about the process of being chosen as a candidate is interesting. 3y
Scochrane26 I learned a lot with this book, but there were times toward the end that it was a little repetitive. I now remember at least 5 counties that I forgot existed! Even if you don‘t live in Ky, you may be interested in this book. #nfn2020 @rsteve388 @Clwojick 3y
Megabooks Ooo!! Sounds good, especially as a fellow Kentuckian! 3y

MoonWitch94 My God, 120 counties?!?!! 🤯 I‘m from NJ, and we we (the most populously dense state in the country) 21 counties! Woah. 3y
Scochrane26 @MoonWitch94 There‘s a lot of counties that are small or the population is small. We are just very attached to our counties, so they haven‘t ever combined them. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick 120 counties?! Yowza! 3y

I found myself laughing out loud several times (and not just from Tomlin‘s snide footnotes). Being a native Kentuckian, I understand Matt‘s love for this state. But the fact that we continue to elect this man over and over when no one really likes him baffles me. But, as Matt says over and over in this book, it often comes down to guns and babies.

I do recommend Matt‘s 120 County tour - lots of fun had along the way!

Sace My daughter now lives in KY and she and her husband didn't vote for Mitch. We were all disappointed he won. I know that sounds so ugly bu I just don't feel like stymieing (sp?) legislation by either side should be considered doing your job. Govt is about getting things done. 3y
Jadams89 @Sace Agreed. He‘s honestly become too powerful in KY, and people are scared of what would happen without him. But what‘s happening with him to benefit those who do vote for him? Anywho....that‘s a whole can of worms and bottle of bourbon conversation. I just do my little blue dot duty in a sea of red. 3y
Sace @Jadams1776 "bottle of bourbon conversation" ? 3y

The authors traveled throughout the state to 150 counties to talk to folx about Mitch. Even Republicans admit that he is good for nothing! Vote #moscowmitch out. Nothing in the Senate will ever change until he is gone and a good person replaces him.
