Of Dice and Men
Of Dice and Men: The Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It | David M. Ewalt
11 posts | 7 read | 10 to read
This definitive book on Dungeons & Dragons, one of the original ultimate nerd subcultures, traces its origins on the battlefields of ancient Europe through the hysteria that linked it to satanic rituals and teen suicides, and to its apotheosis as father of the modern video game industry.

I kept thinking of D&D and remembered the book about its origins. Not a book I have read though.

I need to start getting through my TBR- especially my kindle one. I do way too much late night kindle shopping 🤫 So I‘m hoping that @PuddleJumper #roll100 can help me this year!!

PuddleJumper I'm a fiend for price drops on the Kindle, buy it then forget about it! 2y

We started making dice !!! Because I need ANOTHER hobby right? Lolololololol. To be fair, I‘ve read five books this month already, so I‘m ahead of my goal. This set turned out badly, but it‘s only our second try so I‘m okay with that lol

Great book chronicling the history of one of my favorite games, Dungeons and Dragons. Written so anyone can understand, this book is funny and engaging.

GypsyKat I've never played D&D, but I would read this. Have you ever read Mogworld? It's awesome. It's about the "life" of an undead video game character. 7y
BoldCityBooks @GypsyKat No I've never read it but it certainly sounds like something I'd love! Thanks for the recommendation. 7y
GypsyKat @Nebula_of_Books No problem! If you like that, the same author came out with a new book this year. I haven't read it yet but I'm going to because it sounds awesome. 7y

While I shouldn't say my recon is complete--I get it. Or at least I feel more prepared. The author's passion for D&D is genuine and beautiful. It didn't feel nearly as 'basement-dwelling' as anticipated.

And just like that I feel prepared for whatever this adventures brings. #thingswedoforfriends #DandD #nerdlife

Doing recon in preparation for a commitment I made to a friend. If this is what it's going to be like... God help me.
