pickWow — what an incredible book. The premise: Told from alternating perspectives, a story aout the lifelong bond between two women, one black and one white, whose friendship is indelibly altered by a tragic event. This books brings up the complexity of race within the United States in such a powerful and humanizing way. I highly recommend reading this book if you want to broaden your perspective on race relations in the us.

pickI received this book last year in the Once Upon a Book Club subscription and I hate that it took me so long to read it! I found this book to be very powerful especially in todays world. I think it is a much needed book! I really enjoyed it!
Difficult topic to address, but this book reads in a very relatable way. To be an ally, is to do the work but you have to understand first.
Thing I hate so much in women's fiction: Best friends who talk shit about each other or act annoyed with their alleged best friend.

pickThis is a book that, after reading it, you have to sit and digest it…slowly. It is so powerful. It opens with a tragic scene that stayed in the forefront of my mind throughout the entire book.
