One of those that you wanna like, but at some point you just gotta let it go. Promising plot, likable protagonist, great pov… but so slow. Too slow. Wasn‘t for me.

How It Ends is not in the Litsy database, so I‘ve tagged another one of her books. This is a stand alone novella that‘s also an Audible Original. I liked it, but it was a bit predictable. Because it involves potential domestic violence and stalking, it evokes a sense of dread. It‘s not something I‘d listen to at night. #audiowalk. The cover reminds me of Grady Hendrix‘s A Southern Book Club‘s Guide to Slaying Vampires.
This book was a bit hard to follow at first, but once I got a handle on who was who it was a thrilling read of private investigation, deceit, betrayal, abuse, etc. the main character was black, in fact many of the characters were, which was a nice change of pace.
I‘m ambivalent about this book. I liked the main character, Gray Sykes; I just didn‘t like her as much as I like Lou, the LA cop in Hall‘s Elouise Norton series. The story was good; I didn‘t guess the ending; Gray came to Mobile (I like it when characters visit where I live 😊); and there was a pretty satisfying ending. I‘d read more books with this character. I started The Woman in the Library on my evening walk. #audiowalk
I have about 2 hours left in this book, so I should be finished soon. There are basically two stories here — Gray‘s and that of the case she‘s handling. Both involve domestic violence, and that‘s not my favorite topic to read about. But I like Gray and the story is twisty, so we‘ll see. It was supposed to rain all day, but didn‘t, so, happily, I got to walk. #audiowalk Started The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street as my evening reading.
I love Hall‘s Lou Norton series. Since I‘ve read them all, I thought I would try this stand-alone novel. It‘s also set in LA, but stars a private detective with a past she prefers others don‘t learn about. I‘m liking it so far. The same person who narrates the Lou Norton audiobooks, Je Nie Fleming, narrates this one. I really like her. #audiowalk
Gritty, suspenseful and twisty. Grayson Sykes is searching for Isabel Lincoln. Can she be found? Should she? As Grayson closes in on Isabel, a dangerous enemy from Grayson's past begins hunting her. Can Grayson protect herself and find Isabel? Grayson gets help from her friends as she works to solve the disappearance and unravel a life of lies, but no one can help when she faces her greatest fear alone. 4 🌟s for Grayson & Rachel Howell Hall.
This story isn't really suspenseful but it is twisty, it has a lot of different off shoots that happen into order to tie the whole story together at the end. Some of the strings get tired off, after the second half and the biggest one at the end. Interesting premise, okay narrator, Decent story. I may read another book by her. 3.5 ⭐
Thank you Everyone from the #LitsyLove Community for the Birthday Wishes! I deeply appreciate it. @catiewithac @CoffeeNBooks @Lovesbooks87 @Kappadeemom @BookwormAHN
I loved this complex mystery that's full of twists.
A PI with a secret past searches for a missing woman who doesn't want to be found.
A newly minted private investigator, Grayson Sykes is searching for a missing person. The more she learns about this missing woman, the deeper the mystery goes...and goes, and goes. This was a little slow going for my tastes...I feel like it took forever to get the mystery going and eventually it had two mysteries going on.

My first experience with Hall‘s writing, I enjoyed this thriller. Grayson Sykes starts investigating her first official case- doctor‘s girlfriend (and his dog!) are missing. Hired to make sure the girlfriend is okay and to retrieve the dog, Gray‘s own past colors her approach to the case. The second half moves a lot faster than the first and I enjoyed the sort of neo-noir flair the book has- narrative with a bit of dark humor and plenty of booze.
Fantastic cover drew me right in can‘t wait to read,
